Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Saturday 29th of November. It is is an ‘over the garden fence’ type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone is welcome; please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start does just as well.
Morning everyone!
Wow it was a cold night. I need a thicker duvet I think.
Ok, what did I miss? You are pickling bums?? How on earth do you get them into the jars??? :rotfl: :rotfl:
HockeyDuo8083 - congrats on your first star, I remember how excited I was when mine appeared...lol
Well, we finally bought our Christmas Turkey. Tescos had some extra large ones (10kg - I LOVE turkey!!) so we bought one and it's in the MILs' freezer. It was £25 but I earnt that from a review site I belong to. My review won review of the month so I got Amazon vouchers from them which I swapped with a friend for cold hard cash..
She is ordering something electrical and I have paid for Timmy the Turkey, so we are both happy.
Tescos Direct have free postage on books etc right now so I am just about to sit and order my father some books for Christmas. They sell paperbacks at two for £7, so I can get him four and they will deliver to his place. (Will warn him they are coming and not to open them!) I have my eye on a book for my OH too and one for me. Have £10 in Tescos vouchers towards it, so that will help no end.
We don't put up the Christmas decorations til the 14th December traditionally. It is my birthday and mum always put them up that morning so it looked lovely for my birthday, and as I really don't like the way Christmas is draaaaaaaaaged out these days, I have kept to the tradition though it usually takes me two days to do the house. This year I might just do the tree and the mantlepiece and leave it at that. Not feeling terribly festive really.
Last night for dinner I had corned beef easy quiche which was delicious with potatoes from the garden. Today I think I will defost some fish pie and cook some broccoli.
Hoping to get out of the house today for the first time since I had my fall. Depends how tired the OH is, we will do it on Sunday if all else fails.
Clearing and tidying this 'office' is happening, but rather slowly. However I can report that there is definately a clear space in the corner so that is a start and the pile on the little desk is less mountainous than it was.
Anyway, I hope everyone is feeling good this morning and that the weekend starts well for you all.
to those who want one and a big
to everyone else who makes this thread the lovely place it is.

Morning.
Cold and Frosty morning out there today. I have the day off and no kids to take to work until 10.30, so I can laze about my study writing garbage, drinking coffee and answering e-mails. I shall venture out with the dog later and get the paper and read over breakfast.
Today will be American dayWe will have pancakes and syrup for breakfast and then we are going to the airbase for a (late) thanksgiving meal with some friends we made in the US Navy. I know there is turkey, corn and potatoes. I am making a pecan pie, There will also be root beer, pumpkin pie and other things they got from their PX. I am looking forward to it. My daughter was born there, so we have some affilation.
Car passed the MOT yesterday, so no repair bills there. I think that's the end of the big bills before Christmas, so fingers crossed.
OH has supply teaching all next week, so that's a bonus. She has also applied for a full time post, so again, we hope and pray.
Going to get a coffee, have a nice day and hope you find a bargainNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Morning everyone,
Glad your car passed N9eav. One less worry & hope DW gets the post.
MSD We don't put our decorations up until mid December some time. When we were kids it wasn't until Christmas Eve as Dad & I would go into the bush and get a tree. It's now illegal to do that.
Been another humid day here and we've just had a storm go over. Been out all day with DD. I've made a small dent in the Christmas gift pile so all was not lost. Not much OS stuff going on today but we are going to taste test the toffee vodka soon I made a fortnight ago.
DH works party is tomorrow lunch time. It's a BuyYO dinner & drinks. His firm is definately :money:. Well enough dribble. Hope you all have a lovely day & <hugs> to those not well. ByeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeDon't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -
Morning :hello:
We came home yesterday to find a tiny hedgehog floating in the pond  So first job of the day is to put some netting over it.
It's cold and foggy here, there's no chance of the washing drying outside.
Mr troo is stewarding at the rugby today, so he'll be standing around freezing for 4 hours bbrrrrrrrrr.
I'm in a baking mood so I'll be making sponges and chelsea buns, and maybe some bread. I can't make too much, the freezers are almost full.
We fancy going to WESTONBIRT, anyone been there at Christmas? I know people who have visited in the autumn, but I want to know what it's like at Christmas.Bulletproof0 -
Morning all,
MSD congrats on winning the review.
Had to get up at 5.45 as DH and I will be off to the Myaka clearance sale, DD2 wants the filing cabinet so will save quite a bit.
BM on and WM. Can't get used to doing little or nothing so have been doing some overdue sewing, I can manage that easily. I am making a patchwork quilt for DGD. I've loads of odd bits of material collected over the years and will do a Cath Kidson type one. Hopefully will finish in time for Crimble.
DH wants to make a chicken and leek pie this afternoon so I will stand over him and teach him to make pastry inbetween playing on my laptop, may get some xmas shoping done.
Hope you all have a good week-end.
EDIT Oh Tru that looks wonderful, where abouts is it?0 -

Morning everyone! Hope everyone is warm and cozy today! Its very frosty here but lovely! I live on Dartmoor so wake up to wonderful views and am very lucky!
I shall be calling myself The Taxi Driver today as both dd's are heading out with their friends! I shall drop one at 9.15 and then come back, tidy up a bit before taking the other to her friends!!! Fortunately the eldest one is getting the bus back to the next village and a lift from there so thats worked out ok!
Anyway- I would like to do some Christmas shopping today but not sure how that is going to pan out.
My kitchen looks like a bomb hit it so need to do that this morning and wash all the school uniform and PE kit!
My washing machine is really moving during the spin cycle these days- it actually dances across the floor!! Especially if there are towels in it!
I would like to write all the Xmas cards that have to go overseas today too.
Dh has taken the Big Doorstop (our Lab!) for a walk so i will walk the Puggy later!
Need to get dh to help me get the Xmas tree down from the rafters in the garage- we brought it back with us from the States and its a beautiful pre-lit 7 foot tree but I need to work out the total wattage of the lights to see if it will work with our voltage convertor! Don't want to burn the house down before Xmas!
Right thats it from me- have a lovely day and stay warm!!0 -
Morning all,
not looked outside yet, still sitting in bed with a cuppa & my laptop
Today is a blitz-cleaning day round the house, hoovering everywhere, mopping kitchen floor & getting rid of my Senseo coffee machine that really doesn't want to work (but it makes lovely coffee) & which is cluttering up space on the worktop. Will get my DD's helping so we will all get it done quite quickly, then I can dig out the Xmas stuff to look through & see what we need (new lights mainly I think), so it will be ready to go up in a couple of weeks' time.
I also need to ring the plumber to ask about changing kitchen radiator so I can fit big American style F/F in (from my lovely friend - just need to find 2 men & a van to collect it from Paddock Wood!!).
We are off to the Harvester for dinner late afternoon, so no cooking for me today
Diva, hope you enjoy your first trip out for a while, I'm sure you will be fine & it will do you good, even if you feel a little nervous. And well done on the review!
N9eav, mmmm pancakes for breakfast - I have maple syrup in my fridge, may have to make some myself! Fingers crossed for your OH as well.
Aussie, enjoy the toffee vodka....hic!!
Truto the poor little hedgehog. Westonbirt looks beautiful, I think Bedgebury (Kent) does something like that - I'm sure last year it was supposed to be like Lapland.
Betheebee, CK patchwork quilt??? Yes pleaselol!!
Mum2g1b, I too am taxi driver constantly... it drives me mad!!
(((((hugs))))) to all the poorlies or those needing them.Live your life until love is found, or love's gonna get you down" (credit to Mika!)0 -
Morning all!
Like Squiggley I'm sitting up in bed with the laptop and a cuppa! The cats aren't happy that the bed's still occupied, they think it belongs to them after 7am lol!
Tru - Westonbirt isn't that far from us, but I've never been there, it's meant to be lovely when it's all lit up for Christmas though, have heard lots of good things from friends who have been.
MSD - congrats on your win and purchase of Timmy the Turkey!
Today I really will get these flipping pressies sorted out that are cluttering my bedroom up, need wrapping, labelling and putting away safely till the big day. Other than that will be a cleaning and washing day, and prob some batch cooking, have rubber mince to use, so far 800g of mince has made spag bol and 2 lasagne for 5 people, still have about 1/3 left, so another lasagne for the freezer I think plus a chilli, plus a bit left over for wraps I think.
Tonight I'm off out for a friend's birthday, we are dressing up and the theme is hippies! Found a dress that is suitable yesterday, laughed a lot when I saw several people around town wearing similar ones as tops! Anyway have bright pink tights, boots and a long black wig, plus assorted scarves and necklaces to go with it! Should be a fun night, so long as we don't freeze between pubs and clubs!
Have a great day all, and hugs to those in need or want of one! xxGC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000
