I really don't understand why people here are being 'beastly' to Gordon Brown, I agree that he is a little short on Charisma but it's only a few weeks ago that he went above the call of duty to insure that we 'icesavers' got all of our cash back, something which we would not have had if the 'other party' had been in power, Mr Cameron and Mr Osbourne admitted they would not have helped in the way that Brown and Darling did!:eek:0

I'm a Scorpio and I am supposed to die by fire or water (if you believe in that sort of thing) Well they do call Iceland 'the land of fire and ice'.....0

LOL! Certainly (re financial system, anyway) the land of "hot air" and ice
And I'm beginning to wonder if star signs tell a lot more truth than banks!0 -

nilrem where have you being your postings are missed --you are indeed correct and we do have to thank Brown for our savings especially those like me bellow the 16,000 and is appreciated and the Tories would have left us stranded.
it is jsut his arroagance and the fact his huge borrowings and now the destruction of the pound can he not see what he is doing and that as chancellor for 11 years(something he never acknowledges) he was responsible for UK LTD finances
now today look at the £- € = disaster never mind more expensive holidays look at imports and we have a lot from Euroland -includeing the machines I sell .
TBH interests rates for personal should be increaased and a have a lower commercial rate for business.0 -
As you have probably gathered, I am not a natural Conservative but let's get some shades of grey into this argument, not just black/white. The Tories instinct would have been laissez-fair but the political presssure would have been so great that I believe they would have done a bail out (stress levels would have reached boiling point for us, though). Let's face it even Bush  went for a pseudo nationalization under pressure, so all rules are upside-down at the mo!0

Germany's finance minister Mr Steinbruck questioned why Britain was "tossing around billions" and "All this will do is raise Britain's debt to a level that will take a whole generation to work off." His attack came as EU leaders gathered for an economic summit in Brussels, been billed as one of the most important summits for years. French President Nicholas Sarkozy, who will be chairing the talks, said in a letter to fellow leaders: "We shall be required to take a series of decisions with highly significant implications for the future of Europe."
It's going to be more like an England v Germany match where an opposition player has broken an English leg in the tunnel before the game has even started! I wouldn't like to referee this one Mr Sarkozy.:rotfl:In memory of Chris Hyde #8670 -
