Is your evidence anecdotal or actual? It's a little "hyped down" (if such a term exists). To be honest, I find public transport more reliable in terms of "expected duration".....when I drove to work in midlands you just need something to "tip the critical balance" (e.g. someone broken down) and you can be in bad queues wishing the radio was playing something better!

Please note that I don't do long overground rail journeys which I know are sardine city !

That said, tube STRIKES are a nightmare but (fingers crossed) rare of late.

yes actual and tbh for me if I lived in these places i would use public transport -however i do know what you mean re Midlands -took me almost 3 hours to do 39 miles to Birmingham Aiport once ! normally 45 minutes why? that Monday morning they had decided to block one lane with cones and start road works  just as well I was collecting the person from the Aiport Hotel.

the German u -bahn or underground systems are just so good unlike London -and even Paris where I stayed for 14 days during a Fair -i used the Metro and perfect -until that is all the Public Transport went on strike = utter chaos and with a major international Fair on -terrible ended up walking   and with bad feet as did many

Yep, did coventry to solihull for 4 years...15 miles...sounds simple doesn't it?but that A45 can get snarled up big time at rush hour!

Yeah you were unlucky there was a nasty tube strike in the early zero's..naively tried the buses .. took 3 hours for 9 miles trip into London!

Lusardi calls 999 to get to panto

Former glamour girl Linda Lusardi dialled 999 after getting stuck in heavy traffic on her way to a pantomime appearance, police have said.
Ms Lusardi, 50, called emergency services to ask if she could drive on the M25's hard shoulder so she could reach the High Wycombe theatre in time.
A Hertfordshire police spokesman said: "The request was denied and she was given suitable words of advice."
Ms Lusardi is playing the Wicked Queen in Snow White at the Swan Theatre.
The former Emmerdale actress was on her way to the matinee performance when she made the call. The police spokesman said: "We received a phone call from a woman asking if she could have emergency permission to use the hard shoulder of the M25 as she was late for an appointment. "Being late for work is not a reason to call 999, contact the police or use emergency measures. Use of the hard shoulder is restricted for emergency service vehicles only.
