Hi I'm in for £350 this month please. Have updated my signature. Spent a bit on toiletries today but no more food. Will need some more bananas on Monday and some salad, but otherwise I am aiming to stay out of the shops until next Thursday.

Have a good weekend everyone and keep warm!

nykmedia-What a great outcome for your annual total. We might try that next year. £1 a day sounds great.

Don't forget to include an extra £1 per person per day for each visitor you have to stay :D I'm leaving my overall budget at £1200 for next year but will still be aiming to convert the mini-field that is the new garden into a semblance of self-sufficientish veggie plots. I should also add that I use soap nuts for laundry, washing soda for cleaning and Himalayan rock salt deodorant, which has lasted me all year and probably well into next year, so my toiletries/cleaning/laundry detergent bill for the entire year is very small, especially with Mr T selling shower gel at 10p and litres of bubblebath & shampoo at 23p - stockpiled. :D
I reserve the right not to spend.

  • Well having done a lot of 'bits and bobs' shopping I've spent a total of £40.90. Very little of this is on food I can make dinners with - it's snacks to take to a friend's party tonight (about £11 before wine), plus £15 on supplies for a lunch for some friends tomorrow. Including two lots of baking potatos rather than a bag of normal spuds. Should never have left DH on his own in M&S  the bakers were bought 'because they're faster to peel'...

I did drop by the chinese supermarket though and get a huge bag of chickpeas for £2.70, also a huge bag of curry powder for 60p and some peppers and aubergines for a couple of pounds. And got a huge box of PG tips half price in Tesco - we were going to need teabags soon anyway so pleased with this. I also should have enough fruit in the house to hold out till next weekend before I do another shop although might need a few bananas, it's as if a crowd of monkeys lived here.

Thank goodness I left a bit of slack in the budget for this month!!

Quick question....We are a family of two adults and two children. I have near empty cupboards and freezer. Do you think that £100 a week is suitable? This will include nappies etc

    Many thanks

    MM

I'd say that should be fine. We're a family of 5 ( 1 in nappies) and I'm going for £450 this month - which includes takeaways & food/ hay for the guinea pigs as well.

Just remember it's not a competition to see how low you can go - just find a level at which you're comfortable with. We've gone from £750+ in May this year to just over £400 this month - and I have full cupboards/ freezers and still buy happy chickens and free range eggs and eco products :D

Whatever you do, don't aim too low too quickly - gradually reduce if you can.

I used to do this, and was quite good, but lately I've been slipping a bit.

As December is a 5 week month, which I don't like anyway, and I have a tendency to overdo things at Christmas, I'd like to join please with a budget of £30 per week, which is a monthly total of £150 for me please.

There is just myself and ds at home in December as dh works away and will be somewhere hot and sunny on a big grey ship. I don't need a turkey etc as we have been invited to my best friends for Christmas dinner. I only have to turn up with Christmas crackers for 19 people, and I've bought those already.

I will be having a separate purse for grocery money too, so I'm not tempted to cover any overspending by subbing from my "get me through the week" budget which is for odds and sods for ds and I.
  • Hi,
