Nyk, I am in awe of your budget.:p
You aren't that far behind me, perhaps you just have more shops to choose from where you live and I'd spend more if I lived near supermarkets. :rotfl:
Congratulations on your overall annual reduction! :beer:I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

Hi
Can I join in the January GC, please?
I'd like to aim for £150 after this month's success.
I'll also be watching Lalalaldybird's thread around making the Christmas shop last til February so will more than likely pick up some tips from the posters on there.
Thanks

Another £5.60 spent and that should be the last for the year, so I'm under but havent worked out the actual figure yet
Inspired by Nykmedia, I'm off to work on a budget for 2009; I don't think I'll be actually signing up to the Live on £4k a year challenge as my finances are set to change mid year and not sure how things will pan out, but I'm going to pinch the general idea and see if I can work out an annual budget. I'm just about to tot up my spending from this year so wish me luck!
May not be back here for a few days so here's hoping you all have a peaceful and happy Christmas and all good fortune in 2009

Since we will be at the rentals pretty much from now till jan I'm declaring at £90. Well under but only cuz not eating at home for at least a week!Think we will reduce again £100 for Jan please Mrs M. Pretty happy with this month as included nearly £20 stock up at chinese supermarket. Still 10 dinners ish in freezer, 6 portions of soup and veg for at least 2 weeks.:)
Merry Christmas all!0 -
We are so grateful to this thread as with all your support we have saved just under £2000 on the Grocery Challenge this year..which pays for one of us to go to Central America for a month in the summer..And see the toucan. It was so worth doing this challenge.
We used to easily spend £50 a week on food shopping!!
Thanks everyone!!
We will be using any money saved in 2009 towards taking nephew on a trip..distance/type of experience depends on how well he does in his GCSEs. He'd like to go to Pearl Harbour which would mean outstanding results. What he doesn't know is we'll take him anyway if he tries his best. Which is all I ask and to perhaps influence his outlook on life which comes from travel experience.
Take care all

I spent £250 in Tesco the other night which was just for xmas dinner and about 2 weeks food (albeit there were a few presents in there). It was enough to depress me for the rest of the night. Next year I will beat this grocery shop spending!!! Well done you MSE's0

Going to creep in and declare £283.08! over but not going to get too croos over it, things have been very topsy turvey to only go over by that much is a miracle, just proves I must of picked up some good habbits here;)
Please but me down for £200 in January things are going to get a lot tighter round here:o but hopefully having the allotment now will help.
Happy Christmas to you all:D0 -
Oooh I'm hanging my head in shame here, I have absolutely NO IDEA of how much I have spent this month  , I don't think it's a big overspend but I dunno!:o
But I haven't bought any Xmas food (am gonna eat at relatives!), will just eat what I've got................but I do know some of my relatives will be giving me goodie hampers so hopefully there will be some lush food in there.
Merry Christmas everyone :xmastree: :xmastree: :xmastree: :xmastree:KEEP CALM AND keep taking the tablets :cool2:0 -
Well I will have to come clean and declare for December at £457.03
Went to Sainsbury's in the dark yesterday and finished off the Christmas shopping, including replacing the red wine which OH has been quaffing since Friday (as predicted in last post). I was in there for two hours! No wonder I spent so much. Oh well, it is Christmas.
I love that 'after the excess' feeling of the beginning of January when you resolve to live on vegetable soup for a month and not to touch a drop...so I will optimistically ask Mrs M to put me down for £300 for Jan please. And Happy Birthday for yesterday!
Actually it could be smaller but I will have to go to the wholefood wholesaler in early Jan as didn't make it in December.
Merry Christmas everyone.
