I watched last nights program and wasn't suprised that they didn't manage.
The man had been ill , the lady was not going to be able to do it on her own and there were too many distractions. Some people are just not business minded people (Im not). It was sad to see the man sell his car and boat and they still were nowhere near the target. I felt that Rene was more interested in HIS goal which was to MAKE people pay their mortgage off in 2 years whatever the cost, than in seeing people meet their own goals which are usually more sensible and have their own interests at heart.
  • The bit I was confused about was that the poor chap was spending all this extra time at work... did he not make any extra money?! I got the impression he was covering someone's shifts so why was it always.. oh dear, he can't be here he's at work, not 'at least X has made an extra ** amount from his additional shifts this week'...?

I was baffled! Still enjoyed the show and thought they were nice people.
When you're going through Hell, Keep going!
If you can keep your head when all around you are losing theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation
Just when you think human beings can't get any stupider, they get behind the wheel of a car...
Become eternally poor in one easy step- decide to love Horses...
  • In the trailer for the rest of the series, I didn't see the two girls from Cornwall. Anyone know if they will be completing the challenge. To me, they looked the most likely to succeed, but they're all lovely people and I've enjoyed this programme immensely.

I really enjoyed the program, Rene, and the participants and tbh disagree with some of the comments made, primarily with some of the criticisms of the 'two years is unrealistic' and 'we need more info on tax', nor can i think you can make assumptions on Rene's level of involvement with the participants, based just on the content showed on screen.

Its a television show, designed to entertain in some guise, which Rene invited people to apply to work towards a 2yr goal, watching the trials and tribulations of people trying to do this. It has close to 1 hour to follow two years (well 15 min recap for yr 1 and 45mins for yr2), which is not a massive amount of time. Compare this to the 25 minutes Martin had on Tonight with Trevor Mcdonald on the Council Tax banding, which waffled on and could have easily been told in 10 minutes maximum. Corners are inevitably cut telling a story of such length and better to tell the story of the people than dwell for 5 minutes on tax returns, week after week.

Nobody forced these people to do this and it wasnt Rene's goal; its the whole concept of the show and what the people signed up to do. I didnt feel sorry for him selling his boat and car in the last show, I applaud the gesture and saw nothing being thrown back at his wife for doing it; moreover I felt enlightened that they were such a remarkably strong couple and it would appear that through the process of the programme, the lady appreciated what her husband did more and more. I like that angle, focusing on personal relationships, rather than getting bored by the figures too much. Whether they did or did not actually pay off their mortgage is not that big a deal to me; its the journey which life takes you, in the persuit of this that i enjoy.

PS - thank the lord I haven't heard the rebirth of the multiplier principle!

Hi, during the week I heard a R2 article about a guy who swapped a paper-clip for a fully paid for house in under 2 years (by doing various swaps) - I'll have some of that ... Anyone want to swap something useful with me, I'll start with offering a brand new kirby grip??

Hi, just to let you know Heather and Chloe will be shown the week after ours which is the last of the series on 15th Feb, along with Duncan and 'Cliff Richard'.

Thank you so much for your comments - I think they are the closest anyone has got to understanding this programme in the 2 years. I would like to answer one question before it is asked next week - yes our result is after paying tax etc, they are true figures! I'll leave the rest for you to watch....

Looking forward to seeing you next week. I don't know what I shall do on a Thursday evening when this series finishes. I guess Rene would say go out and earn some money instead of watching others do it, still, motivation is my key ingredient.

I'm slightly confused about this - I thought origianlly there were 8 families, so I was expecting 8 programmes in this series too. There only seem to be 6... did anyone drop out?
