looneyleo wrote:Boy this programme has got me thinking! Agree with all the others with the apparent whitewash over the figures...no tax on incomes.. etc. Been sat here with OH for 2 hours this morning trying to work out how to pay off £140000 early and easily without turning into work psycho's like last nights couple...did they spend any time with poor little Josh in the last two years????!!!! When I come up with something...I'll let you know!
Also I said it last week and I'll say it again...the numbers don't add up....I only work in real money after fees tax etc.
But it is inspiring - we only started overpaying to the extent we do after watching last years programmes...0 -
Thanks boysmum3! I've got a 4 year old and 1 year old and work 3 days a week. I could go back to 5 days and pay off £500.00 per month with the extra but my kids are everything to me and my time will come when they are in school 5 days a week. Had to work full time this week as it's my own business and partner on leave and it's about killed me having to leave the kids everyday! (no problems with those who chose to do so though). Still working on another idea I can do at home though to raise cash!0

jollyanna wrote:I like the programme but feel as others here do that the figures don't add up reallistically, or at least in my world they don't. No mention was made of how the bonuses would put the guy in a higher tax band and he'd have to find that money
I think he was always in a higher rate band. So he knew that and clearly, you knew that. I feel the programme would be teaching grandma to suck eggs if it spent all the time telling us things we already knew. The focus is on the families and their experiences. I for one have learned a lot due to this approach0 -
MisterMonty wrote:Hi David,
I've got cable, and I've just tried the red button, but I still can't work out how to find the repeat. Any help would be appreciated. The cable provider is Telewest (if that makes any difference).Thanks. MM
Hi Mister Monty,
To watch it again on telewest, you need to go to "Teleport Replay". The user guide is here (depends on whether you have a black or silver remote)0 -
Valentine_x wrote:If you're in Scotland, it seems to be on on different days and later than in England - for example last night, we just saw no. 2 in the series.
I haven't been able to work on when no. 3 is on, but will check out the BBC website at the start of next week.
Lovin' it though!

The next one is on in Scotland on Monday BBC2 at 7pm [if you have Sky you can watch the English one and be up to date with the blog]. For some reason the first one was a Monday then it was changed to Thursday and now its back to Monday next week [think it maybe got moved around because BBC Scotland had a lot of progs about the 300th anniversary of the Union]. Hopefully they''ll leave it alone now all that stramash has passed0 -
Good point about the child, you don't get those years back, and what's the benefit of working like mad, to come home one day and find out that Josh now has a beard and is playing cribbage down the pub with his mates - well you get the idea0

Well I'm on my break at w***k :j and I just worked out that if I pay 1882 per month then my mortgage will be cleared by May 2010 when our fixed rate ends. That's if we use my hubbys inheritance then which he doesn't want to do.
Now I just need to figure out what we are going to pay all the other bills with when our mortgage payments are going to be so high:eek:
Ideas anyone please? We'll have roughly 450 left each month and still have to pay all bills. I'm sure it can be done:rolleyes:

£450 should cover your bills each month surely?
If not. Cut down on all other outgoings. Turn down the heating, wear a jumper, Walk to work, no take-aways, maximise the use of your freezer, rent out a room, keep presents to a minimum, sell things.........
Sounds harder than it is, really0
