so....why are my download speeds so rubbish? they are not any faster at all than my old 2meg connection, and theoretically I have a line that takes 19meg - is this a fault of my provider, *be broadband?
Chances are you're getting throttled at peak times. They would say they don't do it, but the users stack up and some of them must be chunking up a ton of the exchange, so it gets spread around.
19mbs is pretty much theoretical. Mine is 8mb, and I get download rates of half that (4356mps on one speedtest). Upload is a fraction of a meg.
Also, you have to factor in what you're downloading and when you're downloading. BBC iPLayer is gonna be hammered in the evenings, same with youtube, and of course there are different peak times around the world...
It's not as bad as dial up though?! My first internet connection in 1994 was about 8kps... and when I had 54kps dial up, that was worth paying the extra for!Student Loan Company Ltd: 17,805 (2.8%) Overdraft: 500 (Interest free)

Well thats a MAC code
Could be anything really. But if your not connected to anything else yourself then its quite possible someones hijacked your router!:idea:0 -
Stirlo, you have a problem with the phone cabling in your house.
Accrding to your router stats the line length is 186.3 meters, so you must be right next to the exchange.
Your SN margin is very low at 6.5, given your short distance from the exchange this should be more than 20.
The output power is also very high, this means the router is working hard to send and receive data, generally this should be 0 yours is 19
Taking the above into account I am inclined to think that you have several extensions in your house, and I wouln't be suprised if they are all mini masters.
Take a look at your main phone socket, does it look like the one in post 45? If so does as espresso suggested and plug the router directly into the test socket using the cable provided with the router and post back your stats.0 -
