  • well thatnks to all your help, I did what was suggested, doesn't look like anyone else on there, and no malware

so....why are my download speeds so rubbish? they are not any faster at all than my old 2meg connection, and theoretically I have a line that takes 19meg - is this a fault of my provider, *be broadband?

How do you know you have a possible 19 meg?
Its VERY possible your house sits RIGHT NEXT to the exchange. However, the ciruit goes round in a big circle, so its possible yours is near the end (And therefore have the worst connection for broadband)

What im saying there is someone a mile futher away could easily have a much faster connection as theyre closer on the actual electrical feed.

Switch off ALL net connections except your browser and use this link ~
    http://www.speedtest.net/

What speed does it give you?

  • my speedtest gives me 8898 download and 1211 upload

which doesn't seem bad at all, but it doesnt explain why my downloads seem slow and if I watch bbc iplayer it freezes a lot

So what type of wireless encryption are you using? As previously stated WEP should not be used as it's very easy to hack.

Check your bandwidth usage easily for yourself see here

Still not seen any router stats see here

What distance are you from your exchange? see here

Your router has synced at 10,423 kbps and not many people are likely to be much closer to the exchange than you, to take advantage of BE's ADSL2+ speeds. Was the post #38 speedtest result when connected using WiFi? Is it any different when connected using Ethernet? Have your changed your wireless encryption to WPA/WPA2? Have you tried with the router plugged into the master socket test socket?
