I do doodledo, just worry that a couple months spent unemployed by the GF could wipe them out! Whose bright idea was it to make London so expensive to live in/near? :D

Is there a high chance of her being unemployed in her line of work then when this contract ends? No chance of an extension or anything?

God its scary enough where I live 50 miles from London so dread to think whats it's like where you are.

Need to find myself a sugar daddy lol

I'm thinking unless another post comes up she will definitely be without a job, as it was a maternity cover post. She does work in a ridiculously large law firm, but as with everywhere else, 'non-essential' posts aren't being filled.

Ah well, I will just console myself that she has a very impressive CV when it comes to finding something else (she's worked for two highly regarded newspapers and the BBC, amongst others).

Sounds like she is the sort that won't be out of work for long hun.

Maybe over the next few months an opportunity will come up for her elsewhere in the company, will have my fingers crossed for her.

Actually I'm only on this early because I wake up ridiculously promptly each and every Weekend :D It's typical - the moment you need a lie in you don't get one.
  • Hey Edinburgher, I've just read your diary and really enjoyed it. You sound really organised and like a thoroughly nice bloke! As doodledo said, your girlfriend sounds like the kind who will find another job pretty quickly. Have you thought about sitting down and making a plan of action to put into place BEFORE her contract runs out? e.g. a CV update, check that her references are in order, register her CV with agencies, apply for jobs on spec with firms she's interested in, explore other ways of her making money (whether freelancing, making money online, temping etc.). I know it's not the best economy in which to be doing all this, but there are still some job openings and somebody has to fill them - that's my philosophy!

Well done on your new job by the way. How fantastic that you'll have some time off before you start, and how lucky that you get a civil service pension. :j
