    Yeah, makes me feel cheerful.

Also managed to post off some documents needed for my new job this morning and have decided to close a less than profitable NS&I account to help buy Christmas gifts. It's only about £60, but it will help. Also, to keep in with my bright new debtfree me policy, I'm going to repay the amount in full into a higher interest savings account come the new year :)

Paid a few more pounds towards bank of GF and now have bought most of my Christmas presents.

Still need to find about £80 from somewhere, but have £110 coming in over the next few days, so that will be fine. Quite proud of my Christmas outgoings this year - went from £25/person+ last year to ~£16 this year, without reducing quality or quantity :D

Going to the gym tomorrow (3rd trip in six days) and have a free party with my Gf's work on Thursday (snooty London hotel, free booze, food and taxi home!). Not looking forward to meeting people from tax that much, but a night out is a night out.

Felt a little down today, but I suppose it's the time of year?

Tried reading up on full and final settlements today, as I'm starting to feel a bit less like a money criminal and more like a victim. I'm aware that we're responsible for our own destiny, but my bank lent me in the region of £8k unsecured debt as a student on £3k a year, which seems a little immoral these days.

For example, can you see them lending me £65k now? Probably, that's the sad thing!

Even Edinburger. I think the time of year and the cold all add to be on a downer.

Well done on the repayments and the cheaper pressies :D

Sounds like a good night out - everything free :T make sure you and your OH have a fab time.

Just checking in with myself to say hi to everyone here in DFW land - hope you're all getting prepared for Christmas?

It's been a busy week, with a Christmas party (in a beautiful Mayfair mansion!), more Christmas shopping and housework galore! I now have eight and a half working days 'til I get home. As it's been six months since I've seen most of my relatives, it will be a good time.

As regards the ever-present debts, I've been good. Paid another £20 or so to the GF (now owe her a mere £90!) Also opened two new savings accounts with IF (one for presents, one for holiday) - 2009 is going to be the year that I budget properly, rein in things and generally act like someone who doesn't believe that his money is brought in silken sacks by pixies in the night!

I have to confess to being very naughty and buying a cake tin from Lakeland (it was less than a tenner). I've been planning on making a game pie for months now and it looks like that I'll be doing this for Hogmany (or New Years' Eve for you Engerlunders!) Making the GF a nice buffet meal for our anniversary then, so this will be a nice tasty addition :)

How jealous am I - xmas party in a Mayfair mansion! Sounds cool.

Well done on paying another bit back to the GF that £90 will soon be gone.

I'm liking the pixies and the silken pouches of cash arriving whilst I sleep do you think we can make that happen :D

It was a ridiculously extravagent house - thirty foot ceilings with mouldings, candelabra and marble everywhere. That, and the Louis XIV mouldings were crazily attractive. I may already have mentioned, but GF works for one of the top two law firms in the UK - their budgets are a little generous compared to most office parties....

I'll get right on it, but you might need to lock the puppy in the kitchen!

Today I made the fatal mistake of being honest with HMRC and now I have £60/mth student loan repayments to 'look forward' to from now to the crack o' doom  That said, I have been liable for them for six months, so it's probably better that they find out now, than when they kick my butt for not paying them.

Sadly for me though, £60 a month will seriously affect the speed with which I can make offers to my creditors, so I'll need to try and curb my outgoings elsewhere. Think that wine club will be kicking the bucket soon!

Also, my new job still isn't decided - government clearance is so bloomin' slow.. Looks like I won't be through the door until February at the earliest now.

Have started to think that keeping the amounts I pay to my creditors the same is maybe a better idea than upping the amounts at the moment. I'm giving serious thoughts to full and final settlement and I want to increase the chances of them saying yes ;) Sneaky? Maybe, but they've not exactly been the soul of honesty with my debts, charges and the like..

So, not much news on the debt front, but at least I have the hols to look forward to. Off to a Christmas market tomorrow (last day of annual leave). Bratwurst and mulled wine ahoy :T
