Can Edinburgher be debt free and a mortgage holder by 30?

I think we as a society put so much pressure on ourselves to have our own house, debt free, savings etc etc when we have kids but trust me they don't care one bit.
Very true Doodledo, but I'd like to be debt free and with a few grand in the bank before a tiny person comes along. I don't want the moon on a stick, I'm happy to rent and I know that money isn't the end of the world.
On the other hand, I want the flexibility in my working life to be able to work reduced hours etc. and spend time with my children when they're babies - my dad was never around as much as I'd have liked when we were growing up, then my parents divorced and things weren't always smooth with my stepdad.
I agree with you 100% that it's not about money - but time is priceless and it's something that you can never get back. Ok, it might be harder to change jobs later on, but it's easier than turning back the clock (which is impossible!) My GF's dad is a chef and one of her few complaints is that she barely saw him until a few years ago when he got a local authority job.
Anyway, think my mind is made up nowI am king of the switherers.

Ahh - it's so nice to have my Friday evenings back as a time of relaxing
Spent four hours making stock for next week (soups and risottos). Other than that, drinking wine and relaxing with the GF.

Busted! :rotfl:
Why isn't it payday until Friday? I'm convinced that the world of work is trying to spite me! Booking the hotel for our mystery trip in February this month and also hoping for a couple of cheap days out.
I'm still somewhat suspicious about the fact that my payslip shows employer's pension contribution - after all, government schemes are unfunded and that's why the private sector hates us
Ah well - only 6-7 hours of work to go until I can go home and cry0 -

Sorry - flexi time - I am not costing the tax payer any more than my normal salary (which is cracking value as it's in the lowest quarter of departmental salaries)
