  • Good if you can get work experience through your GF's dad :) And as long as TVU still have places for this year's couse, I can't see why they'd turn you down  Travel's going to be a bit of a pain though with half the tube network closed most weekends lol.

    Didn't even think about that!

Currently feeling like a total tool as I mixed up replies from TVU/a college I was e-mailing and managed to get into my head that I'd been misadvised and complained accordingly :o

Ah well, it's a learning experience!

Forgot my keys, continuing my afternoon reign of stupidity :o

It was a lucky accident, however, as I took a wander round the Beckenham high street and saw a nice cafe that was looking for weekend staff to help as chefs (no experience required, just be an avid foodie). Will get an application form on Friday as I have a day off.

Pleased to report that TVU got back to me and it looks increasingly likely that I'll be able to start the course this year (I can enrol next week).

Does anyone know if there's any sort of general financial support/tax break or anything of that nature for part-time courses? The £645 fee doesn't seem ridiculous (somewhere like Tante Marie would charge me £3000 for similar tuition), but it is a considerable expense all the same.

Not sure if I'd be eligible for anything as I already have a degree and earn a reasonable wage :o
  • Excellent news, well done you :) I bet you never expected it all to happen so fast :rotfl:

Sorry, no idea about financial support. However one thing I can think of that you may be able to get a student discount travelcard. I know there are conditions with part-time courses, but might be worth checking (must be somewhere on the tfl website, or ask at TVU when you enrol).

    I certainly didn't!

I've put in the application, will need to see whether or not they accept me now (a little worried that I'm overly qualified on paper). Unfortunately their automated e-mail says that applications can take 3 weeks - no use to me if I'm hoping to enrol early and go along next week :(

Do you think it would be worth pestering them from Tuesday onwards to see if they can speed up the application? I don't want to come across as a pushy person who thinks he's more entitled than others, but working full time already means that I'm going to be considerably less flexible than teens who aren't working :o

    Ah - long weekend!

Home and rested, all the dishes done, tomorrow's breakfast made, a Dooyoo review posted and another one written ready for posting.

Somewhat scared about tomorrow - going to pop into that cafe/restaurant I mentioned yesterday for an application form and worried they'll be suspicious of a 26 year old wanting a Sunday job :D Wish me luck!

    Thanks doodledo!

We're both grand (I'm even better as I have the day off). Have been up since 7am finishing off pork rillettes that I started making in the slow cooker at 10pm last night :D

Have got the food coming shortly, so should probably stop shredding pork and go get dressed?

Having been paid early because of the bank holiday I've now reached yet another milestone, as my debts are now under £3000!

So pleased, as the £5k I still owed last November now seems like a distant memory :) Ok, so my savings have only gone up by a paltry £2, but the £355 hole in my budget that I need for the first half of my uni fees should more than pay for itself in the next few years.

    Feeling good
