Yay! I'm in Fife so will happily take over the testers for suppers....! bit of a journey still I know!
seriously, good for you - wish you all the best.0 -
Meh - although I've almost finished aforementioned application, I'm not liking the disconnect between the desired skillset and my actual skillset
Thinking it's very unlikely that I'd get an interview, so currently mulling over options with the GF.
On a more positive note, our landlady has got back to us to say that we can definitely extend our lease for a year as long as we don't disagree completely on the terms of the renewal. Also, think she's swithering about dumping the letting agency and going for a private let of sorts. This would be good, as I know she pays them ~13% in fees and as this is over £100 a month we could very reasonably request a rent reduction if she lets privately. After all, she is overseas and it's not as if she can come round if there's a problem!
Also on a positive note, I've started contacting FE colleges in the South to find out what my options are for starting off a NVQ in professional cookery/chef's skills or similar. I've probably missed the 2009 intake, but can always start planning for next semester?
Will also set up an alert on Gumtree for Saturday jobs working in kitchens - must stop talking and start doing0 -
Good news about the lease and good luck with the Saturday job.0

good luck with the Saturday job
I'll need it with my grand sum of no relevant experience (unless my teen jobs in McDonalds and Burger King count?)0 -
Oooh lots going on then
Good news about the lease, that's one thing less to worry about and even better if you can get the rent reduced.
Good luck with all the information-finding and applications and all that0 -

I have to confess I haven't, as I've been furiously contacting academic institutions to try and get on a suitable course. Work experience of some sort I can pretty much guarantee as my GF's dad is a head chef/executive chef with 40 years of experience and I've cooked for him
TVU may offer a course on Saturdays which sounds very interesting - I'd get an NVQ lvl 2 Chef's Certificate which sounds like a good intro. The fact that it's on Saturdays is a huge draw, as it means I wouldn't have to take time off work for it! Have e-mailed them a big list of questions, not even sure if I'm too late for the 2009-10 year.0 -
That sounds very promising......get on the phone to them rather than email - time is short!!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0

Will give them a call when I get home (early) from work tomorrow (if I haven't heard anything on e-mail by then). My office is too open plan to call from work and I haven't actually topped up my mobile in three months
As they have open days from the 2nd-17th of September I'm optimistic that there's still a chance of getting something sorted for this year.0
