JPMC RE PAYPAL INT direct debit appeared??

I logged into my online account yesterday and found a pending transaction for JPMC RE PAYPAL INT. It rang alarm bells straight away as I knew I'd not made a recent PayPal payment for that amount.

I used the banks online chat service and was told that it had been set up as a direct debit in May 2011!!! :mad: Not by me it hadn't!!! Got it cancelled straight away. Lucky I spotted it before it left my account.

I have just found this on my bank direct debits. I found out that PayPal are using it whenever I buy something via PayPal not just eBay. I have cancelled and intend to have my bank card linked only.

JPMC RE PAYPAL INT!is most definitely a scam very clever and almost illegal. I have good internet security. I thought i would give something else ago and put the trial date in my diary. The app was rubbish. The site looks all over the place but i went in and it is a ploy. TODAY they set up the subscription.......i googled and found you. I deleted them and it was nothing to do with Paypal.....just looks good. Thank you so much xxx:beer:

I have just discovered payments from my account, set up as a Direct Debit to 'Paypal Payments' to be taken quarterly.

I buy a lot through Paypal so used to seeing them in my statements, but always just as 'Paypal' not 'Paypal Payment'.
It was for an odd amount of £20.89
Looking back they have taken a previous 2 payments of small amount £1.06 etc that I had missed.

I signed into Paypal, and there are NO matching transactions. I have my Paypal set up to take payments from my Paypal account first, and any remaining from my debit card. My bank account details are on there - but classed as unconfirmed so should never be taken.

I have trawled through past payments in Paypal and if any payments were split, they were split between my remaining paypal balance and my debit card. NOT my bank account and none of the transaction amounts matched.

I rang up the bank and she confirmed the direct debit was set up in Jun 2019 (I had not set it up) I have had my Paypal account for YEARS.
The money was going to a MAUREEN WHITMARSH with number: 01202343491 in Bournemouth

I typed this phone number into google as I was on the phone and up popped a few forums all claiming that they too had direct debits set up, taking sometimes in total of £1600 over a few years because they hadn't noticed. It brought me to this forum too, but in the past it must have come up as 'JPMC' and now they use 'Paypal Payment' The bank are going to attempt to reverse it. Because there are no transactions that match with Paypal whatsoever.

Did anyone get to the bottom of it?!

You also need to urgently work out how your account was compromised. Have you fallen for a phishing Mail or do you have something nasty on your computer? Go the the tech board and ask then to talk you through a thorough clean , then change all your passwords. If you didn't get email notification of anything being set up , nor payment advice emails then the hacker had access to your emails at some point as well.

I have had a direct debit set saying it is payments to Paypal on the 8th of Jan 2020. I checked my Paypal no such payment has been issued. I cancelled the direct debit immediately. I phoned the bank they said it has been set up by Maureen Whitmarsh and gave me the phone number and told me to phone it. I did so the phone was cut off straight away. so I googled the name to discover loads of people have been ripped of by this person/people for years. So why are the bank not aware of this!!

That means they have been taking the money from you every month for about NINE YEARS!!...Did you get it refunded to you?

has anyone managed to do anything on the Maureen Whittmarsh scam? My bank tells me that I need t speak to Paypal - which of course is impossible during lockdown - and I cannot report it online as there is no record on  my PayPal account of the transaction but only my bank account. Any recommendations much appreciated as to how to go about this!
