My TalkTalk bill payment date is today. I pay by direct debit but the amount hasn't been taken from my account yet.

Has anyone else had problems with their direct debit payments lately?

I think this will be the first direct debit to be taken since TalkTalk changed how their name appears on Direct Debits, I'm starting to wonder whether that's what's caused the problem.

I don't want to have a missed payment affect my credit rating when it's not my fault!
  • I'm new to the forums and am wondering if anyone can give me a bit of help.... I've been disputing some money that TalkTalk are trying to bill me for an old Tiscali account I had, which was cancelled in August of last year. I was in contract at the time of cancellation, however because I had had to spend so much of my life without the service I was supposed to have actually working (and therefore so much of my life on the phone to their ridiculous excuse for Customer Services and writing letters demanding to be reimbursed for the calls), they eventually wrote off the cancellation fee of something like £88 and the monthly rental that they had continued to charge me for months after I cancelled. This took me months to get agreed. Months of calling and waiting for 30 minutes to be answered, only to have to explain the whole story again, be put on hold and then hung up on.. Over and over again... They also never sent anything in writing confirming that the fee had been written off despite my asking repeatedly.

Anyway, then this weekend I got a letter from a debt collection agency called Roxburghe saying I still owe the money. I am going to write to TalkTalk, yet again and try to get them to issue a deadlock letter so that I can try to get Otelo involved, as I've read on the forum, but my question is, have I shot myself in the foot by paying off some of the debt today?

The rep at Roxburghe said that if I paid some of it off I could still dispute the debt and get a refund if my dispute is upheld... but I'm worried that that's not the case as I'm wondering if paying some of it is taken as acknowledging the debt. Is it? I have never acknowledged the debt. I only paid some because I was worried about my credit rating and am in the middle of being credit checked to move house and the guy said that I could still dispute it once I had paid.

Can anyone help? I'm feeling a little like I have no choice, but to pay off the money because I never got anything in writing...

I can't even face calling TalkTalk again. I have spent literally hundreds and months calling them. How can a company get away with having such abyssmal customer service?! And it's not even free! Argh!

Anyway, any help anyone could give me would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Hi Box_of_Tricks,

Sorry for the delay getting back to you.

Is the reference from the collections agency an alpha numeric account number or a 10 digit numeric account number? This will identify if it is TalkTalk or Tiscali that are claiming there were funds outstanding. If it is a numeric account number then it would be useful if you could register and post at https://www.talktalkmembers.com/forums where we can take a look into the account for you and see why you have received this letter. If it is an alpha numeric account number then I would need to advise you to contact Tiscali directly.

    Cheers

Like many of those posting on this site I have had terrible service from Talk Talk. Following a particularly badly handled technical fault on my broadband service I was sent a request to fill in a customer service experience form online and gave TT the worst possible rating in all sections (no one from Talk Talk bothered to find out why!!). Having worked in a similar service I know that my my experience is largely down to poorly trained staff and inadequate IT systems to support them. The fault that took TT two weeks to fix I was able to diagnose as a common fault (once I got my broadband service back). Basically the Siemens Router I have fails after any large silent Windows upgrade takes place. A setting in the router changes and to fix the problem one has to reset it - takes about a minute. Instead Talk Talk had me scrabbling about in my loft checking cabling, and swapping filters, which I knew was pointless. Having had a lot of good service from Carphone Warehouse in the past I was prepared to give them another chance - provided I could talk to customer service, get an apology, get recompense for all the phone calls I had to make to Talk Talk, and get some assurance that they realise they have a problem with their technical support and are trying to fix it. But I cannot find any route into Talk Talk's Customer Services/Complaints department. If the Official Company Representatative can tell me who to contact great. Otherwise I am just goin to cancel my Talk Talk contract and move elsewhere.
  • Has anyone else noticed that TalkTalk conveniently turns back into Tiscali whenever you have a problem and then you are 'accused' of ringing the wrong number/sending letter to the wrong address, even though that is the phone number/address GIVEN for TalkTalk!!! Funny how they are two separate companies when it suits them.

I have had nothing but hell transferring my account from Tiscali to TalkTalk as they completely messed up my transfer and then threatened to cut me off for non-payment even though they had a live direct debit and had debited my first payment from me! To add insult to injury my broadband speed has been getting narrower ever since and struggles to reach 1.5mbps, despite being only 3 miles from a city centre.

Don't touch TalkTalk with a bargepole is my advice. They are spending millions on advertising but have an FU attitude the moment you join them.

    Hi There

We're not sure where to turn to resolve our issue with Talk Talk!

We received a letter from Talk Talk to tell us that our telephone number was being transferred on the 06/05/10. On the letter we were told to call immediately if we didn't want this to happen, when we called them we said that we did not want to cancel our account and were assured that our line would not be cancelled.

Today we find that our telephone line has indeed been transferred and we don’t even know who to.

For most of the day we couldn't receive incoming calls but broadband ok then around 6pm we find we can receive incoming calls but have been given a completely different number.

Has anyone any idea who we need to contact because Talk Talk won't help and it's their fault in the first place! BT say that this is not a valid line!

Like other customers we have found the customer service is dreadful - when you do get through eventually to someone then you find it's not Talk Talk but Tiscali you need to contact or you are given a tiscali complaints email address post a complaint and then get an email to say you've used the wrong one you should have done it on the Talk Talk website - what a waste of everyone's time!

    Any help or advice appreciated!

  • i was a tiscali cutomer for about 2 years very happy with the service in january i received a letter from talk talk saying that they were taking over tiscalli but my subscription would carry on. on checking my bank statement this month i could see that £32.00 had been taken from my account by talk talk. so i checked my online bill only to discover that they had taken extra out £12.76 in April. i rang the retentions team at talk talk and was told that they had reviewed the tiscali packages. this now took my old £4.99 a month package to £19.99. they had changed my package from free weekend calls to free evening calls but there was a charge for this???? at no point has anyone from talk talk contacted me to ask if i want these changes and the person i spoke to gave no appology. what can i do now?

As I was until I was given the "ultimatum" to take out the weekend/evening call package with broadband for £14.99 (plus line rental) or to keep the existing account with a slower broadband speed for £5 more - talk about being held to ransom

However, we were tied into BT for evening/weekend calls until May. When I rang TT, to be fair to them, I negotiated two months free internet to compensate for not being able to switch from BT (would have cost around £35 to bail out of the contract), as at the time I was intending to switch to TT's all-in anytime and broadband at £28/month when my BT contract ended.

Having seen the number of issues raised about TTs service (and not just here on MSE), I am having a serious rethink about switching. As someone noted earlier, it may be better to keep with something that ain't broke for a few £ more/month. Thanks to another thread, I will be going back to BT and seeing if I can get their £8.54 line rental + evening and weekend calls for 12 months which would then go someway to compensating for Talk Talk's price increase.

Who said that competition was better :(
