Job Interview with DWP

ictquizzer wrote: »Well I can assure you that it is certainly common place in my (large BDC) office - both through not needing the staff any longer and through the fixed term/temp staff not being up to the job and therefore justifiably being let go at the end of their contract. In fact, it's happening in a few weeks time to our current batch of temp appointees (who had their contracts extended for a month) while the external recruitment took place. They went through the same "open and fair" recruitment as everyone else but failed the tests - they're now out, new bunch in who passed the recruitment process. So I have to speak up and admit the recruitment process IS fair and is certainly not one for the so-called insiders...
You haven't really made this very clear.
Are you saying that at the end of a fixed-term contract, the fixed-term staff have to 're-apply' for their jobs with a lot of new applicants who may potentially replace them?
Your post also makes it sound as if the tests are a new part of the recruitment process. Did those who failed and are "now out" not have to take these tests at the start of their fixed-term positions? After passing the tests for the post I've been offered I was given a letter confirming this and stating that I would not have to take these tests again should I want another DWP position. There seemed to be current DWP staff there when I sat the tests, all seemingly disgruntled. In fact, looking at all the paperwork I've ever received from DWP through this recruitment and through my personal dealings with DWP and reading the posts by current DWP employees on this forum, it would appear that numeracy and literacy are indeed new requirements for DWP staff:rotfl:0 -
I work in HR, Payroll and Recruitment at Newcastle.
I can confirm that we regularly let go fixed term appointments at the end of their term. This is due to poor performance and also natural wastage. Sometimes we extend fixed term appointments. It totally depends on the position, person, and the department they work for. So it's a bit like how long is a piece of string, asking if a fixed term appointment will become permanent.

I have had another job offer today for a Full-Time position in a national Tile Shop.
They havent secured the premises yet so although I have the job I have to wait for confirmation of a start date, he advised me that he hopes this would me in 2 - 3 weeks.
So now I am waiting on 2 jobs, obviously I would prefer the DWP job but how would I stand if a week into the Tile Shop position I was offered a start date with the DWP?
Oh for your information, I am currently going through pre-recruitment checks with the DWP, I forwarded them my CRB and it was recieved by them today.0 -
come on! have a think about it!!! as if we'd know your JSA has stopped?! thats private information! nothing to do with recruitment!
if you dont want the job you dont need to contact them! if they needed it they'd contact you but then you just say i'd like to withdraw please!
OK!!!!! I don't know, maybe I thought that the system may flag it up to save them wasting time and money in attempting to recruit someone who was already employed. Seems logical to me, but hey ho.
I have received a letter today saying I didn't get the job with them anyway, so that's the end of that.Grocery challenge - Nov: £52/£100

Right guys if you have, or will be offered a fixed term contract like me as an EO you should think yourselves lucky really!! At the end of the day if you work hard and are successful at your job there will be a possibility that you will get your contract renewed so i think you should just work hard enjoy the position and what ever happens happens
!!!
Good luck everyone and thank you for your help0 -
Hi there newtonlot. Thanks for all your help on here! Would you be able to advise me when I will get my test scores and CRB certificate back?0
-
I'm currently on leave but will check when I go back next week what the estimated time for test scores and CRB's currently are. The timescales will just be a rough guide as different regions work in slightly different ways as mention earlier in this thread.
I know when I sat my test it was about 2 weeks before my test results were sent out to me, however I knew what level they were as I was offered an interview the same day I sat my tests.
I'll update you with timescales next week, hopefully though you may have heard before then.Newtonlot on an MSE mission0 -
WHEN the economy picks up they will not need all the staff!
recruitment hasnt been so massive since last economic downturn
when people come off JSA they will not need as many people at the jobcentre!
its common sense! I don't care what your friends friends aunty uncles friend says!
they may keep some people but I'd imagine it would be those with common sense
Thanks for that.
I go into the Job Centre alot with clients who I work with. They all seem pretty inept. In my current job I've learnt alot more about the 'system' than the advisors at JCP know. In fact, I could and regularly do wipe the floor with them. So, I know for sure that I'll be someone who they certainly wouldn't want to let go of.
Yes, they may only keep people with common sense...but you've still got your job with DWP:rotfl:0 -
Just a quick question. I have received a letter this week saying I wasn't successful (started a new job on Monday anyway, so not bothered in the slightest). I have then received another letter today saying to ignore the previous letter (both are dated the same, so someone is confused), and that I have been unsuccessful (again?!)
There is no sign of the tests results, which I would have been interested in (I passed the literacy/numeracy tests, but the interview obviously didn't go very well).
Is this likely to follow at a later date, or do they not let you know the results if you aren't offered a position?Grocery challenge - Nov: £52/£100

If you've reached the interview stage then of course you passed the tests and should get the scores sent out to you so if you apply in future or for other posts - you have proof that you have passed and wont have to take them again depending on the level of post you are applying!0
