Are Next Directory legally allowed to open a credit account without my permission?

They were having summer sale couple of weeks ago (2 months I think!) took advantage of their free £10 for 1st time online shopping & free delivery when opening their an a/c with them - don't mind that really. What annoys me was that they sent me their Directory without my consent even thought I specifically opted it out online.
Received my statement & lo & behold £3.50 directory to be charge soon. Wrote an email (complaint) told them that they are not complying to the customer wishes. Got an email asking me to return the directory using their prepaid envelope - wrote back & told them that either they get their courier to come & collect it or I bin it!!! as I am not going to put it in their prepaid envelope & drive to post office for their mistake & cost me fuel & time & not to mention carbon footprint!!!.
In the end they apologise & told me to bin it! of course I am going to bin it.:rotfl:I was only interested in their £10 free credit to purchase anything over £15. Dont think I am going to shop online with them again. Only like next children clothes & nothing else still prefer to go to their outlet instead.RIP my dear dear parent : Mum aged 62 (17/5/1990) & Dad aged 89 (23/1/2012)0 -
Similar thing happened to me. I ordered something and actually entered my credit card details to pay for it, and used a £30 gift card, and weeks later, I discovered that they had opened an account for me. When i said I'd already paid and had used a gift card (which I had thrown away so had no record of the number) they said that they had no evidence of this. Can't find any email that they sent to me to confirm my order as it was on an old computer which I can't get access to. We'd only recently cancelled my husband's old Next account as we didn't want to pay for the catalogues that we never order from!:mad:0

But as has already been mentioned, you DO NOT get charged for the Directory if you don't order out of it.
Also, Next have charged for their catalogue for 18 years at least to the best of my knowledge so why are people still complaining about it now?Justice For The 960 -

Has anyone ever received a Next Directory without even being on the website to request one?
I received a letter today saying that a directory has previously already been dispatched to my address (granted as my wife is an account holder) and that if I want my own personal copy to contact Accounts Administration Department.
I went on the Next website to look at the 'request a directory page' and was surprised at how little information is required to request one. Anyone, who knows my address, email and D.O.B could request this for me, it certainly wasn't me, is this the same info they need to set up an account? Could this be the start of me loosing my identity?
Your input would be appreciated0 -
Yep, similar story here, except that I didn't actually get as far as ordering anything! I cancelled halfway through placing the order; Next didn't open a credit account for me but they did run a credit check on me without requesting my authorisation. I have e-mailed them a number of times about this, requesting that they rectify my credit record but have received no response.0

do you get charged for the directory if you only place orders online? sorry, rather confused............0 -
I would point out that there are several television advertisements running currently for specialised ladies clothing catalogues that all carry the same wording at the foot of the screen (in white writing against a pale background!) saying that a credit account will be opened and a credit search made.
It is not stated or even implied in the audio track that this will happen, just a glimpse of it at the foot of the screen.
I think there are advertisements for three different branded catalogues running at the moment - I expect they are all part of the same group (the same one that runs Littlewoods).0 -
I dont understand why they cant be normal and let you purchase and pay for items online without all the hassle of a credit account which you do not want, ive had this problem with them too......0

The same thing happen to me last night tried to use the £10 off £15 or more purchase, I was careful not to sign up to the credit account even though at every opportunity it say you don't have to pay for it you can open a credit account and pay later and list all the benefits.
I still opted to pay by credit card then an error on screen saying transaction not complete try again, i tried another card after calling customer service who reckoned it could be my card "but don't worry you can put it on the account" " i said that is what i don't want a credit account. tried again the same error
I looked through my emails, logged into next and i have a credit account.
I am still trying to get them to close it - CS says its too late - how can they open a credit account without my consent?
We seriously need to report them to trading standards:mad:0
