OK, I'll trawl through some of the extra income ideas, then set a realistic (but challenging) target. Think with current repayment patterns and interest, I struggle to reduce debt by £400 each month, a few 0% deals would help, but as they have seemingly dried up, it's a case of "we are where we are".
Have over 15000 nectar points though, so could see if I could live on that for the month, would be some sort of kick-start!

  • Found a savings account statement that I was using last year and has £8.39 in there which is interest from when I was saving. As it will cost me in petrol and parking to go get it out and put it in my ISA (I have to go to the branch to get it out) I will start off my moving out fund instead :j

We've just made the regular payment of £280 so far as I am currently in negotiations with our lender to reach an early settlement figure. We're hoping to agree on anumber roughly equal to this months wages, my "doing the house up" savings and Hubby's redundancy money - such as it is.

They still need to come down a bit morethough, to make it possible.

If we can come to an agreement with them, then we'll be debt free. (Apart from the mortgage) which will be very strange indeed.

I'm not sure if I can do this though- cos we want it more than they do - but the loan has 4 more years to run, and I'm a good negotiator (With our debts I've had some practice! :o ) so we shall see.

To answer some of the questions I've seen asked on this thread:

Our extra money comes from extra jobs and from cutting down our expenses.

The debt in the first place came from living a very nice life with two cars, shiny phones, lots of nights out at gigs and restaurants and villa holidays - plus suitable outfits for all of the above :o - and some private medical expenses of mine and Hubby working for himself not working out as well as we'd hoped.

The reason we're able to pay off huge debt amounts now is because we have a different life. A better one in many ways.

It's up to each individual person how far they take it - I am not the frugallest of them all by any means but I am (now :o ) good at money management. Mainly cos now I do some, and before I didn't do any at all.

I think the most important thing for me is that my spending now reflects my priorities, and who I am as well as my budget. A lot of it before was just habit and doing what my friends did. I don't actually care that much about cappuccinos, clothes, cars and phones...

    Anyway,

I am procrastinating - eBay packing awaits me!

    yay.

    Have a great day!

    Love Jacks xxx :D
