who finds sealed money boxes helpful in saving money?

I had a tom and jerry one and before i knew it had saved £7.50 in under two weeks by throwing loose change in it..

You can get these from asda/pound shops for a pound!

Anyone else want to share their opininions?

  • It has helped me. I have 3 different money pots which have been saving since April this year and counted them on Sunday and have just under £200. I now need to put it all in the bank and will be starting again :)

I started one after last xmas, Hubby and I and put every £2 coin we received in. We had nearly £200 to take on holiday when we opened it in August. Started a new one after our hols and plan to open it for xmas.

I love them because it's money that you don't really miss and wouldn't otherwise save. (Having said that I was peeved when a shop assistant gave me £8's worth of £2 coins and they had to go straight in tin!).

I love them. Hubby and I put our £2 coins in. We started after last Christmas and had nearly £200 extra spending money for our hols in August.
Started again after hols and will be opening soon for a Christmas treat, expecting about £80 judging by the weight.

I wouldn't have saved it otherwise and didn't miss the £2 coins.

  • i bought one of these but canty get it open with my tin opener! come someone offer me some advice as i put notes in it. it was one from the poundshop. do u think it coild be tin opener is not sharp enough?
  • Saw one in a shop for £15 - it had a poster next to it saying roughly - buy one see how much you save and then smash when you're done. £15!!!
Very good idea though, stops you dipping in and out "for that pint of milk" (read bar of chocolate)!

Try doing it the bottom end , also make sure you have partial pressure on the tin opener as you try to open it , if not used a sharper tin opener ,that is pesky!

Thanks guys! I joined the sealed pot challenge and have gone almost 2 weeks without opening the tin lol! How ever will i leave it until decemeber hehe!

Savings pots, cans, piggy banks etc are a great way of starting children off on the savings route. Even if there's only coppers in a savings bank, a lot of pleasure is gained when the bank is filled and then opened.
