E-Bay - Selling Of R4DS Cards

Would appreciate some thoughts - hopefully without getting flamed.

After reading a thread on MSE about these cards I did a load of research on R4DS cards and eventually found a seller on Amazon who seemed to be selling a genuine card.

Now - I don't really want to get into a barny over whether R4DS cards are good things or the devil's spawn.

Anyhow the card arrived and it did the job - lovely.

Then someone I know said "I want one" - and to cut a long story short I've bought 5 more of these cards and passed these on at cost.

Anyhow I was in the market for 2 more cards and my Amazon seller offered to sell me 10 with a massive discount equating to half the price I paid before.

So the 10 cards arrived - 2 passed on.

I had decided to flog the rest on eBay - to test the market I listed one last night - it sold at 0302 today - eBay pulled the listing at 0310 (even though the item had already sold).

My buyer panicked over their Paypal payment - luckily I was able to reassure the Buyer that I had the item and it was theirs.

Anyhow eBay sent me a snotty message: Unfortunately, your item(s) breached one or more of our policies and had to be removed from the site. Any associated fees have been credited to your account and any bidders on this item have been notified. Additionally, eBay prohibits members from providing information on eBay's websites that encourages the use of hardware or software devices designed to defeat copy-protection measures.

When I sell on eBay I do tend to go to town with my descriptions and really market my items if you see what I mean.

I notice that at least 2 other listings for R4DS cards survived intact on eBay here and here - any idea why these were not pulled like mine?

Does it help as per the first listing to make an anti-piracy statement or the second listing to avoid the N Word?

Any constructive thoughts over how I can sell my remaining 7 R4DS cards would be appreciated - I just don't want to get into trouble with the eBay Police.

It's a bit hard to comment without knowing what these things do :)
If I knew why they apparently upset people I could probably point you at a rule or something that says why you're not allowed to sell them.. or something.

Regardless of whether other people have them for sale - if you break a rule and get reported, ebay can remove your auction. If other listings remain, they haven't been reported.

  • As far as I know, selling these is ok...it's what you do with them once you've got them that may be not cosher. If it's *just* for authentic homebrew then it shouldn't matter.....IMO if you flaunt what it can do too much, then maybe it would have got pulled because of that....then again....if you look at dealextreme they seem to get away with it really well on their own website....

    Cheers.

Well I'm not a techy but these things as I understand them, were originally designed to allow techy peeps to design their own N Word games - homebrew is the phrase they use.

However the flip side is that these cards can be used to store back ups of N Word games - you can store around 15 whole games on 1 card - ideal for my kids when on holiday.

If someone wishes they can place back ups of games they do not own.

If you go on amazon and search for R4DS there are quite a few for sale.

Like I said I don't want to get into a 'are these good or bad' - there is a market and I want to sell what I have left!

As far as I'm aware you are not allowed to sell them on ebay.

They pretty much fall under the same category as modchips which you also can not sell.

    Hello,

I sold some of these on Ebay, however i paid the concesquencies (sp?), i put them on ebay buy it now immediate payment, as soon as the listing was put on and one was sold, ebay removed the listing, i then put it straight back on. I managed it about 25 or so times, before ebay closed my account down. As i knew the buyers would get an email stating the listing had been taken down, i sent them an email as soon as they had bought the item explaining they would still get the item.

So what i am saying is you could sell them on ebay but will probably loose your account, another place is ebid.co.uk, if not what about back on Amazon, if they are the geniune r4 1.18 version and you put this in your listing you might get some interest.

    Good luck.

Had a similar experience myself with ebay OP, they are IDIOTS!

I was selling a spare concert ticket I had. They pulled the auction but the other 900 odd auctions stayed in tact...

Quite possible one of the other sellers reported you because they don't like the competition.
  • I gave up on selling with ebay a long time ago due to all these dumb reglations they have, I think that if you dont mention the N word and ask people to research the uses maybe that would help? I have bought one myself from the official site and I wouldn't be without it so if you word it differently maybe you could still list it?. Good luck with your listing in future.
P.S they removed my listing of a GENUINE pair of G-star jeans and I had the reciepts and they refused to even see them! oh well thats ebay for ya.

They certainly are the genuine 1.18 version - I've learnt that the 'newer' versions are rubbish.

I really don't want to loose my e-bay account - is selling on ebid.co.uk or amazon easy?

Buy a bigger micro sd card and you can store way more than 15 games on it. I also use a rom trimmer tool to trim off the unnecessary kb, doesn't make a huge difference but every little helps :D

Oh and numpty question because I have a cold and brain is mush....whats the N word? :rotfl:
