I have no bank I had a £3k o/d limit and when I stopped using the account approx july last year it had an o/d balance of about £3.9k, I know that in the period '05 to july '07 there would have been lots (hanging my head in shame again) and lots of charges for going over the o/d limit and a few returned dd's @ £30/£35 a pop. As I abandoned this account last year and have only made periodic token payments of £10 towards it do I have any grounds for claiming any charges back. I am in no doubt about my claim for hardship, this I cant deny.

No problems, start claiming them back now.

  • How's it going? Hope you are cracking on and making good progress.

Thanks for the positive vibes df ! I've had no more phone calls and just been for a walk on the south downs overlooking the sea, for some reason the view looked better today. Will now look into claiming back charges from First Direct using the hardship clause, not sure how I am going to go about it as I am sure the account is now officially closed and has been moved on to a debt collecting agency, although presently not sure which one. The phone has rang ! A wrong number ! that usually the excuse that i use !

    Hi Jim,

You don't need to ring up Abbey and tell them your problems to enquire about an interest only mortgage. I had only been with my mortgage provider for 2 months and I rang them to ask them about my options. I just said that it was something we were considering as we wanted to pay them (Lloyds) back their overdraft. They gave us the option of a percentage repayment that we could decide. Cheltenham & Gloucester (Lloyds) were fine with the request, they said it was up to us when we wanted to change it back again. I admit that it was 3 months ago...maybe things have got much worse out there for banks, I don't know. They didn't seem to bat an eyelid though about the query!

I know some people would disagree with our decision, even Lloyds warned us that it would be more expensive in the long run. I just wanted to pay back the overdraft and stop being charged so much.

Just be pleasant and assertive with them!

hi sweetie, not a lot to add here other than you have no need to hang your head in shame. If that were the case then we'd all be staring at our feet and banging into things. how do we learn if not by our mistakes. I actually was in debt 10 years ago. took 3 years to pay it off and hey presto! here I am again. my 2nd trip to debtsville has been through taking a decent wage with neverending overtime for granted. Basic wage still there but all overtime stopped. average of between £400-700 a month GONE! and now riding the debtsville express again. I too hung my head in shame when I told my mum i'd gone and done it again. she was totally supportive and let me into a big secret. That she in fact had been there twice herself. didn't know this.
And posting on here has been the best thing i've ever done. These people on here are fantastic! you are most definately not alone. my mood has lifted dramatically just since the depression of monday. what 48 hrs in good company can do. unbelievable!

thinking of you hun and good luck. you've taken your first step to good help and getting debt free!

    Hi Jim,
    Just wanted to say Smiley_Hello_by_Lucifer4671.gif
I'm sooo pleased you are feeling happier today than you did when you first posted.

I am on a DMP with Payplan and have found them very very helpful and not judgemental. Just as I have found people to be on here. I am still very new to here and to my DMP. So can't really add very much more to what everyone else has said.

Keep coming back to the site and don't forget to let us know how things are going. I find reading the posts very supportive, even if they're not address to me :rotfl:

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but have you got any items you no-long need that you could sell? I have managed this week to sell a few books on Amazon and 1 on Green Metropolis last month. Just have about another 100 to list, most of which are un-read or in very good condition, so hoping they will sell. Help me to get a few extra pennies for xmas pressies.

Anyway, thats enough from me for now. Good luck with your DFW journey.
Maybe we should get a virtual bus as we're all travelling on the same road! How about this one?
