What would stop cats using the garden as a toilet?

Apparently orange peel or juice alone won't work but mushed up oranges apparently do!Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

We are still having cat problems which is worse now has we a now have a child and I know cat mess can be very dangerous.Unfortunately alot of cat owners don't care about their neighbours they just think we should have to put up with their animals using our gardens as toilets. They then tell us it can't be their cats as they are clean animals yes they think they're clean because they are using everyone elses gardens as toilets. We are then told it's natural for cats to do this maybe it is but I didn't buy a cat and I certainly don't want my garden being used as a toilet.I wish I had neighbours like catwoman123 but I don't.I have tried everything(only tried things that would not harm the cats) to stop cats using my garden but nothing works. If a dog worker gets caught letting their dog mess in the street they can be fined £50 I know this does not stop them.I would like to know where the cat mess fines are.I have done my best to provide a safe, fun, and clean garden for my son to play in but I still have to check every time he goes out.Yes people have the right to have cats as pets but I also have the right to have a cat free garden.Having said the above I would never hurt an animal.I would just like to have a cat free garden
Paragraphs are nice:D
Dig a small area of earth and keep it turned over in your garden cats will always go for fresh earth to toilet in. I do this in my garden and my cats always go for that area. If not there are some citrus based products you can put around your property that will put cats off0 -
A cat free garden would be nice
I have tried everything on the market including the citrus based products but nothing as worked.I have also tried every old wives tale going.Looks like I will have to be on pooh patrol for good.0 -

No problem with the backgarden as I have got a dog and he keeps them well clear. But the front garden is another problem. Dont get me wrong am not a cat lover but I dont want to hurt them I just want them to do their business elsewhere.
Any ideas?????

I've never used it, but I've read that lion's poo from the zoo works!0 -
I bought my mum a cheapie kids' super soaker for this purpose, but by the time she'd found it, filled it up and unlocked the back door and opened it, they'd always scarpered! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0

Water pistols work really well to deter unwanted cats. We trained our cats to keep off the kitchen table by using a plant spray filled with water. Our cat uses the indoor litter tray, but other local cats use our front garden....unless you plan to camp out with the water pistol there isn't an awful lot you can do.0

I keep a cup full of water on the windowsill to deter the little beggars, got me that the owner thought I was being cruel. My answer was 'well don't let it come onto my property then'.
I bought a sonic thing but I have to keep moving it around the garden as they get wise to it.
A lot less cats would be good. My next door neighbours have 5 between them, I am knee deep in cat sh*t. It can be very smelly in the summer and quite unpleasant to sit out if it's very hot.
I appreciate people like their pets, but they are a major nuisance and a health hazard to others.0 -
I managed to disuade the local vermin cat population from using my garden as a toilet by sprinkling my own urine around outside. I do it with a jug, used only for that purpose I hasten to add, and under the cover of darkness. I've not had a problem since I started doing it. About once a week is enough, altho i've not done it for a while and they don't seem to have been back so maybe its put them off for life
If I see them in my garden its the supersoaker water gun.... They run when they see me now
Whilst I would never, ever harm any creature, I can understand the frustration of the people who have commented above. I bet most of them wouldn't actually hurt a cat either, (they are just venting their frustration) but those of us who don't have and don't want cats can be driven nearly mad when we have to clear stinking cat carp from kids clothes/shoes/our gardening gloves, or worst still our HANDS
I wish all cat owners were like the lady above who went to great lengths to protect her neighbour from the horrors of someone elses cat carp in their garden, but sadly, the reality is that most are not like that.0 -

Yes, quite. And not everybody worms their cats, or keeps them flea free.0 -
I too struggled very much with cat drama in my garden (and in my shoes, and in my potato patch, and in my...............) and someone suggested I get a cat of my own to deter them. Not ideal you might think......but I did! it worked (after a while) plus I love her now. Me a cat person, who knew? To quantify actually, I'm not talking the odd poop here, I have a neighbour who had nearly 25 cats - down to around 18 at the moment. She treats them well and loves them all dearly but they have some anti social habitsGrocery Challenge M: £450/£425.08 A: £400/£.May -£400/£361 June £380/£230 (pages 18 & 27 explain)0
