What would stop cats using the garden as a toilet?

Cats are supposed to hate citrus type smells, so you could try rubbing an orange over your front door. Try banana peel too: it stopped our cat from scratching the woodwork in our house when everything else failed.A friend is someone who overlooks your broken fence and admires the flowers in your garden.0

Water, keep a good powerful spray or hosepipe handy & give him a good blast when he comes near your door, totally harmless to him, but it will shock him into staying away.
I'm not convinced if the citrus thing works, my cat loves yogurts & one of his favourite flavours is manderine.
If its a big ginger persian, don't bother with the water trick, that will be my cat & he loves water. He'll keep coming round for the game:rotfl:
Hmmmmmm........my cats a bit of an odd ball.0 -
I've heard that you have to get rid of the ammonia smell, which is what attracts them to keep coming back. This seems to have some truth, as the only way I could get one of my cats to stop peeing in exactly the same place on the stairs was to scrub the whole area with 1001 until the smell had totally gone.
I'd try scrubbing it with some boiling water and bleach, or you could go all OS and use bicarb and vinegar.0 -

You could try covering a largeish piece of wood/hardboard with tin foil as I understand that cats will not walk on it (so I have been told) - I admit it does sound a bit Blue Peter-ish. But if you could put it so he cannot get to the door without having to walk on it? Just another idea.:oGrocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

Hi magni,
We have a long running thread on getting rid of cats in your garden that should help you, so I'll merge your thread with it, as it helps to keep all the ideas together. As always the posts are listed in date order, so you'll need to read from the beginning to see all the replies.
There is also a long thread on the In My Home board that should give you some more suggestions: Help!cats using my grass as a loo
