Now, I notice the nice new style board but I cant find anything! The main threads at the top that you search for seem to have gone and when I type something in the search facility I seem to get stuff which is totall irrelevant. I know someone helped me out last time with searching and would appreciate some help again. Thanks. I am looking for ways to keep a cat from using my garden as a loo!

There's this sticky at the top of the OS board which has tips on searching :)

To help you out just now, here';s the thread you need - I'll merge this to that one later.

  • I feel I have to have a rant in response to some of the comments on here. I came here searching for ways to deter cats from toileting in inappropriate places. I own three cats, I have had two of them for four years and another for two years as the RSPCA wanted to put her to sleep (she was only about six weeks old at the time and in perfect health). We used to live by a busy road and so the cats were kept indoors, but moved to a rural area about five months ago and so allowed the cats out. They were miserable indoors at our old house and spent most of their day looking out of windows, they are now VERY happy cats! They were all three very well litter 'trained' and I kept the litter trays down for about two months after moving, but once they had the option they toileted outside every time, and in the end I got rid of the litter trays as they were never used. It is not possible to litter train a cat! Cats are clean animals and will toilet wherever they think is the best available place in order to be clean (this might or might not be the place we think best). Having used trays ALL their lives my three cats decided that they preferred to toilet outside, and there was/is NOTHING I can do about that!!! The reason I came here is because my neighbour mentioned that one of my cats is toileting in her garden. In response to this I have done some research, ordered a sonic cat repeller for her (at considerable cost), bought some other gadgets/repellers for her and placed a litter tray filled with sand at the bottom of my garden in the hope that the cats will use the outdoor tray instead of my neighbours garden. I will do all I can to help my neighbour and prevent my cats being a nuisance, but I cannot control or train them - they are cats!!! PLEASE if you are having a problem with cats toileting in your garden talk to the owners and try to find a solution, MOST cat owners are responsible and will (like me) do all they can to resolve the problem, but it will take time, team work and understanding! I have owned many dogs too over the years and assure you that cats are just as loved and treasured! Before you consider harming a cat please remember that it is someone's much loved pet (likely a Childs best friend as my cats are to my eight year old). Thank you for reading this, I hope it have enlightened you a little.
  • It may seem a bit odd but it stopped our cat using our lawn...
we used ferrous sulphate as a moss killer( we were trying to cure the moss problem)it turns the moss black, it smells of rust/blood.It was then raked out .It worked for us..:D

You are a disgusting creature. You are almost certainly between 15 and 30 times the size of an average domestic moggy. There don't happen to be too many animals 15 to 30 times your size in Britain, so I tell ya what. How about we use 15 to 30 individuals each of roughly your own size to illustrate the comparrison instead? Is this sounding reasonable to you?

Oh lets say, er, 15 to 30 of my nearest and dearest biker mates, all of whom have a massive massive chip on thier shoulders about bullies, abusers, cowards... I'm thinking you might not get added to anyones Christmas list eh.

Still seem like a fair comparrison? Seeming pretty fair to me. If you believe it is fair to use 15-30 times the might against what you find irritating and destructive, then it seems only logical that I should be allowed to use 15-30 times the might against you now that I have decided I find you irritating and destructive eh?

Or perhaps you think that seems excessive?

You didn't when it was you talking about the cat.

If you know the owner, pop the poop in an envelope or jiffy bag and post it back to them.

Forget the stamp so it costs them to accept it.

I hate it when they use my garden.

I can't upload them at the moment but I have pics of one of our cats, the one belonging to my now 7 year old daughter!!! before some disgusting piece of vermin shot her in the face... and some of after.. I have tried to share them but will try again later.. I don't care what they do.. no animal deserves such appalling treatment.. though the people that would even consider doing such an evil thing do!!

I dislike dogs.. especially the one that pooped in my front garden twice in the last 3 weeks.. but I hate the owner more.. The animals are just doing what animals do..

You could always put a lid on your garden!

Don't do this. It could land you in court on criminal charges.

  • Cats are OK but not what they leave behind, and we've have tried all sorts over the years but think it's the novelty of something that deters them for a while, so if they don't find an alternative place, they come back eventually. Also there's a steady stream of new cats on the block.

Has anyone tried those black plastic cat silhouettes with the shiny eyes? They're sold as bird scarers but wonder if they would put off cats? Thought it might work as a cat-owner once told me the only way to stop other cats using your garden as a loo is to have your own cat.

We are still having cat problems which is worse now has we a now have a child and I know cat mess can be very dangerous.Unfortunately alot of cat owners don't care about their neighbours they just think we should have to put up with their animals using our gardens as toilets. They then tell us it can't be their cats as they are clean animals yes they think they're clean because they are using everyone elses gardens as toilets. We are then told it's natural for cats to do this maybe it is but I didn't buy a cat and I certainly don't want my garden being used as a toilet.I wish I had neighbours like catwoman123 but I don't.I have tried everything(only tried things that would not harm the cats) to stop cats using my garden but nothing works. If a dog worker gets caught letting their dog mess in the street they can be fined £50 I know this does not stop them.I would like to know where the cat mess fines are.I have done my best to provide a safe, fun, and clean garden for my son to play in but I still have to check every time he goes out.Yes people have the right to have cats as pets but I also have the right to have a cat free garden.Having said the above I would never hurt an animal.I would just like to have a cat free garden
