Exactly. There is no such thing as a £1 or 1p flight, because you can't get around paying airport taxes and charges each way.

Er, yes you can. Ryanair 1p / £1 flights usually INCLUDE taxes (ie Ryanair swallows the cost for you). Look at the example on the previous page of the flight confirmation where the whole thing comes to £2 inc taxes.

There is also no online check-in charge on these promo tickets.

As long as you've got a Visa Electron and only take hand baggage, you WILL only pay 2p / £2 return.

Has everyone who claims its easy to book a £1 fair for £1 actually booked a flight recently??

    Yes, last week 30th July.

    crusty planes!

Not true. Ryanair has, on average, the youngest fleet of planes of any European short-haul airline. They placed a massive order with Boeing in 2002ish during the last recession at a ludicrously low price. New planes need minimal maintenance and need far less fuel than older models - perfect for Ryanair's model.

Ryanair are now charging £5 each way to check in online! This is a rip off-an unavoidable charge that is not advertised in the up front cost of the flight. When is the OFT going to investigate???

The only way this family would pay £80 each return for airport check in is if they don't print off their boarding cards when they get to the airport. So thats £240 for their own lack of common sense!

As for luggage, they need to think, do we really need 10kg of hand luggage and 15kg of hold luggage each? And it's £20 return rather than £40 as stated in the OP. Most families can get away with the hand luggage only.

Paying by debit card has a simple solution. The first time I ever used Ryanair (Jan this year) I booked using Maestro. Before booking I looked at every card type to see the surcharge, found there wasn't one for Visa Electron and that day got a new account with Halifax. Or sign up to entropay for a virtual Visa Electron card. Easy peasy!

People who say Ryanair is a rip off with charges just don't know how to play Ryanair by the rules. I've had many a £2/£4/£10 return with them with no extra charges at all.

Everyone should boycott Ryanair they are not cheap now. Its the public that made them the company they are and now they are just getting plain greedy. Use someone else instead of moaning about the extra's I would rather pay a few pound more and not use them. The plane lands in the next country anyway its never central to where you want to be.

I am travelling on Ryanair myself... and would have prefered not to as they are just the worst 'rip-off' out of all the budget options. I have flown on them before but was shocked this time to discover that I HAD to checkin online for a £10 fee (this was not the case previously) and then, without pre-warning, after I had made my payment I realised thay had charged me £10 for using my debit card - which you HAVE to do if you are booking online. So all in all, one flight was supposed to be £0.00 and the other £12.99. The total cost ended up being about £98!! I knew I had to pay airport fees and taxes, but this is taking the proverbial. I willl not be flying with them again. They aren't a patch on Easy Jet or BMI Baby for value and also for customer service - I have always found Ryanair's service terrible - and then they go on about trying to sell you scratch cards... totally shocking.

You exceeded your luggage allowance and were charged which means Ryanair ripped you off:confused:?
I've yet to fly with ryanair so can comment as an innocent bystander , I know people who have flown for £1. I know i'll need an electron card and a bag that doesn't contain everything but the kitchen sink , so why don't others research first?
The final prices should be more prominent on their websites but calling low cost flights a rip off when you are on a moneysaving site full of people who've managed to fly for £1 looks silly , unhelpful and at worst a lie.

When you fly with a normal airline you assume you can take check in luggage up to 20kg per person and normally if there are two of you this is interchangable, i.e. okay to have 25kg in one and 15kg in the other. With such a high charge on Ryan to check in a bag you try to save costs by taking one bag between two only to find the weight restriction is lower at 15kg, and per bag not interchangable if you check in two bags. You try packing for 2 people even for 2/3 days and limit to 15kg.
But the main problem is that you are continually on edge wondering what they are going to charge me for next? You can't relax and enjoy your flight.
Fly before you comment. It will be an experience you won't want to repeat.

I decided a trip to Eindhoven was in order so thought I'd check Ryanair, 2 return flights for £20, great get all the way through, and then it's up to £40 with the card charge.

I've now applied for an easycash or something Halifax account but obviousl not going to be here in time, at least I'll have it for the future though.

'Promotional' fares include free online check-in, so they aren't breaking rules when they advertise £1 fares.
Other fares advertised include £5 online check-in.
Ryanair do not advertise £0.01 Regular fares excluing charges on their main pages anymore.

I don't see what all the fuss is about everyone knows with Ryanair you have to pick your travel times/dates carefully to get the best deal

Best thing to watch out for the is the free online check in as opposed to the cheapest base price flight as this seems to remove all other taxes and charges, example for one flight....

0625 departure £10 plus free online check in total £10
    1355 departure £3.99 plus £5online check in plus taxes of £16.42 = £25.41
    2205 departure 1p but add on £5 online check in plus 16.42 = £21.43

And surely with the luggage most ryanair destinations are shorthaul and used (mainly - I know there will be exceptions so don't start flaming me for them!) for short breaks so 10kg hand luggage should be fine...unless of course you plan to fill your suitcase with cheap ciggies and booze....

Booked return flight to Spain for £20 per person, and saved £10 per person by getting a prepay visa from the post office. I could never EVER get a BA/BMI/etc flight for anywhere near that price!
