Been up about an hour and just had 2 puffs from my nicorette nasal spray and I'm waiting for it to take the edge off. I think it's psycological today as I have had a bad few days, really, really want a smoke
I have been thinking about cigarettes constantly since I woke up. I sometimes can't stand this withdrawel. When is it going to end
It's making me feel depressed and I have been mean as a rat these last couple of days. I thought it would get easier as time passed, but it's getting worse. What do I do?
Think about your health scare last year Ember.

I Hit the thanks instead of the Quote button!!!
This is exactly what a patient of mine said.
He had a stroke last year at 56. From an active person, he now hobbles round with a stick. Speech is difficult, he can't ride his motorbike anymore, he can't drive anymore.
Smoking hasn't had the decency to kill him just yet. I think he wishes it had.How to find a dentist.

Thanks Toothsmith. As you have probably already guessed one of the main reasons I decided to stop smoking was due to the 'health scare' you know about. I was lucky, very lucky and after that was all over with I thought about my smoking and what it may do to me one day. I think your short sharp shock of a post has helped. I don't feel too bad now. I have had about 6 goes of my nasal spray, phoned hubby at work and had a moan and am starting to feel more cheerful.
Thanks Toothsmith, thanks very much for that reminder. If I come close to cracking again I shall try to remember that. Have a nice day, Ember x~What you send out comes back to thee thricefold!~~0 -
larmy16 wrote:Ember it is so difficult to deal with those damn cravings. Perhaps if you could put your energy into acceptance of them rather than gritting your teeth and avoiding them if you get my drift.
Try to look at it this way, the physical nicotine addiction is actually in its dying throes. The psychological one is your stronger adversary. It will nag and bother you and do everything it can to convince you that you need to smoke. You never needed to smoke when you were a pure new human being and that is still what you are inside.
I still get a wistful ciggie feeling, particularly friday evenings, and it was there on New Years Eve! I just look at the cravings as a reminder of how daft I was to start in the first place, and a small price to pay compared to the feelings of disgust and smelliness, not to mention the health risks of being a smoker. Oh and of course burning money - not very MSE
Take care and :T
Thank You for your support. I am pleased to say I didn't crack and I haven't had a cigarette. I am feeling more positive now. I can do this and reading your thoughtful words reminds me that I can. You did it and so can I. I have just had a giggle actually (didn't think I could do that whilst feeling so grumpy) as I had taken some chops out of the freezer to defrost for dinner later and placed them on a plate on the work-surface in the kitchen. Just heard a 'thud' as I was replying to Toothsmiths post and ran into kitchen to see Nash my 6 month old kitten trying to carry a frozen chop in his mouth as he jumped on to the floor! The cat must be mental, the chop is frozen for goodness sake. It didn't make me feel cross, I am just laughing at his sheer nerve LOL
Needless to say, the chop is now in the bin and my hubby will only have 1 lamb shop for dinner now LOL :rotfl:~What you send out comes back to thee thricefold!~~0 -
THANKS TO ALL OF YOU I'm now on day 6 of being a non-smoker and, guess what, it's not as difficult as I thought. Don't know abouit all of you, but all the other times I've stopped I've found it harder to resist the longer time has passed. This time I don't seem to be having that problem. I crave a ciggie right now, but it'll pass quickly and, instead of sitting down with a fag and a coffee, I'm going to do some decorating. Displacement activity - try it, it does work. Don't forget the £££s either, day 6 = £30.30 saved already!
Wherever you are, whatever your situation, becoming a non-smoker will make your life better than it is now. Do it.

Nelly your honest about loving smoking is commedable. Now we need to look very closely at why we "love" doing something that is so seriously detrimental to us, not just financially and health wise.
Do we really "love" those cigarettes or are we just frightened to be without them. We give them tremendous power over us. They become our crutches, our friends (20 times a day normally) and in my case a substitute for virtually everything. How loving is it to see a group of people hunched outside in the whistling wind frantically dragging on a ciggy. How loving is it that now the only way you can indulge without reprimand or dirty looks is in your own home. Relaxing indoors with a cig - ah a treat indeed. However most people now boast that they go outside to smoke. What! In the wind and rain and snow.
Not very relaxing and loving to themselves.
I am not saying this to judge you or scold (after all I still get my cravings), but when I had a hard hard look at ciggies, I realised they were probably an outward sign of a very unloving act towards myself. Yes it is your problem, but millions of people think they love smoking so you are not alone.......one thing I think as an ex. smoker is I will never ever stop trying to get free even if I did have "just one", so there is little point in having "just one".Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

So far i have done seven days. smoke free (well almost had a small blip in the pub last thursday but i didn't buy it .. does that count as money saving ?)
If you drink the water instead of smoking a ciggie i.e each time you have a craving it kind of washes the craving away
I can already see the difference in money saved in my purse ! i've got an extra part time job which they pay me in cash (in a pub) and i still have the money ..?this is normally my social and ciggie money ! I worked eight hours yesterday and one ciggies
I've also vowed to give up drinking for january..and drink 2 litres of water a day instead ! all three are going well except the adverts on the telly telling me i won't succeed if i try and do more than one thing at once..! thanks for your support ITV (not)
I'm joining my local Gym next week on the money i've saved not smoking , my friend is an instructor there so i'm getting the monthly fee half prce and paying no joining fee (£17.50 a month )
I have two years left to pay my debts off (feb 2008) and i am vowing to try an do it by the end of this year.. ! I'm £50.00 better off this week !! because of no ciggies and no health benefits yet.. !
Come on guys we can do it together..
by the way nicotine apparently is broken down by the body in 48 hours .. the craving after that is for the habit not the nicotine..

Well done Flaura. Way to go :T - I think you are doing it the extreme exposure way that is unless it is a non-smoking pub. If not, a great opportunity for you to see the truth of smoking, people lighting up, screwing up their faces, trying to blow the smoke away from non-smokers etc. I think you are brilliant, especially if you get to the gym too!!!Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01
