cheap wedding favours

I have to ask - what is the point of "wedding favours"? Why have them?
Maybe I'm simply cheap (or old-fashioned), but I simply don't see the point of them. I got married 13 years ago and the idea of "wedding favours" didn't even enter my mind. I'll admit that I had an MSE style wedding even before MSE existed.
I vaguely remember some almond things at my half-sisters wedding many, many years ago - didn't see the point of them.
I'm beginning to understand why weddings now reportedly cost so much money - it's because of unnecessary items like "favours"!

Hi all, OH, mum and i had brain storming session at xmas on favours. We came up with a few, instant lottery scratch cards in envalope with names on (double up as name places) but the one we have gone for is brown for boys and gold for girls (our theme brown and gold) baubles with the person's name written in pen on the front with a lavish ribbon in a bow on top. Baubles 48 for £1.00 in sale at B&Q.0

My sister was doing her wedding on a budget and wasn't going to bother with favours even though she wanted them, so we found a template online for some scrolls (sorry i can't find the link) and added a black and white photo of her and her husband, with a nice wee rhyme thanking people for attending their wedding. We ordered some nice parchment paper from ebay quite cheap, and bought some pink ribbon, pink feathers and a wax and seal kit thing. For the males, we rolled up the scrolls (a5 size) and sealed them with burgandy wax, whereas for the females, we tied the scrolls with pink ribbon and stuck a pink feather in the ribbon. They were placed in baskets for my son and niece to give out at the reception, and they turned out really well.0

I am opting for gold and ivory chocolate Dragees for my favours, can buy them online. I have got boxes and am looking forward to making my favours up myself. Mind you, I only have 35 guests, I wouldn't be so keen if I had over 100! :rotfl:
I am also getting little bars of chocolate with OH/my names and wedding date printed on the wrapper. Favours aren't neccessary, but they are a nice 'extra' touch. They don't have to cost a fortune.Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219.
