  • I hope you dont mind me asking but what whiskey company sent you the samples, and what did you say in your letter? It would be fantastic to get some free samples! Thank you!

hello think it would be unfair to advertise which company as they would then get millions of letters and some not so honest ones (eg people lying to say getting married just for freebies)

we sent a letter saying we are getting married on x date and would love to give our male guests mini bottle sof whiskys as favours we wondered as a way of promoting your product whether you would be able to provide us with some free samples to give to them as favours. we have x number of males guests.

we had 35 male guests and they sent us a case of 96 minatures which was very kind.

we did write to about 35 companies for favours and 3 out of those gave to us one was whisky, one was chocolate and one was the perfume.

we then brought the boxes and some organza bags for the whisky.

some companies dont even reply but if you dont ask dont get and its a great way for them to promote company.

OK, thanks. did you write to the manager, or a specific department? not too sure where to start, will have to google whiskey companies!
  • I personally wouldn't bother, my sister did some cheap ones for me (bought boxes in asda and put 4 chocs in each), but if left to me I wouldn't have bothered. I had too much to worry about without the added, lets make up 100 odd boxes with ribbon and spend yet more money on sweets to go in them.

Bah hum bug I am LOL

i addressed it to the managing director (wouldnt bother with cadburys or nestle, smirnoff, jack daniels, bells or grants as had no luck with them).

i got wed in the USA and wanted some cheap favours for my reception here, i used "the oriental trading company" shipped and all they were much cheaper and they were something different, american style candy and things, everyone was raving about them,

edited to say - sorry, i just remebered that when i got wed and bought these, a $USD was only 50p, now its near 65p so that will make them a wee bit dearer, but prob still cheap by comparison,
  • Have you tried The Wholesale Wedding Supplier? You don't have to be a retailer to buy from their website. The prices are really low, the more you buy, the lower the price. My friend uses them all the time. She co-ordinates weddings :)

We're having lindt lindor chocolates, we need about 60 so I think we need 4 boxes - they seems to be pretty easy to get 2 boxes for £6 (there's about 18 in a box) but I'm gonna keep an eye out for a better deal than that! They are really nice chocolates!

We did our own favours and I used Elizabeth Shaw mints (probably on offer somewhere at this time of year), putting a mixture of dark and milk ones in small boxes...then added some small flowers on the outside of the box....

Are you definately thinking of something edible? The best for taste and value that i've found so far is Thorntons. If you buy online you need to buy by the tray, which is by weight and therefore the exact amount of chocolates can vary. If you go instore you can get the exact number you need and mix up your choices. As for containers, i'm looking at organza puches on ebay as they're pretty and cheap.

If you're prepared to think a little differently, the nicest favour i've seen so far has been a cancer research pin badge. I don't know if other charities do it, but cancer research will sell you the pin badges with cards to go with them, saying you've donated to them in honour of your wedding. I've just bought a couple of kg of chocolate beans from our local closing Woolies for £7 - I'm going to wrap them in florist's cellophane and tie them with curly ribbon. Sorted!
