Doubt it - clothing in most (if not all retailers) has huge profit markups. You only have to see how often clothing stores have 'huge discount' sales or just go to S. E. Asia and see how cheap similar clothes are there!0 -
Lets hope they get the online orders form the last event sent out before this next one then...i got a 'sorry for the delay, your order shoudl be with you by the 1st December' email today.

Not true, they're probably making a loss on most things in this sale. It's 20% discount to sales price rather than to profit. If they usually sell 1000 chocolate bars for £1.20, £1 cost and 20p profit, that's £1200 revenue; £1000 to break even before a £200 profit. If they then sell 2000 at £1.20 less 20%, i.e. 96p, the cost of the goods doesn't change but the profit margin does; it's been wiped out so they're making a 4p loss on each bar (£80 overall). Problem is they've bought all this stock but noone is buying it so they've got to get rid of it somehow before it goes out of fashion or goes off in the case of food. When you consider the overheads they have there won't be much that they're selling for a profit margin of more than 20% so I'm pretty sure they're making a loss. That said, they'd make a bigger loss if they didn't do it!
i dont think you realise the margins that the retailers make on most fashion own bought items.i work for a large retail company and if an item is being sold at about £10 the cost to the retailer is about £2.50 to £3 at the most.so even when most are selling off winter lines in the january sales at 30% or 50% discount then they are still turning some level of profit.knocking 20% off means that they are making more of a profit tha they would if they hd to sell them at larger discounts in january.if they didnt mark up by such a percentage how else would they pay for staff, electricity, rents etc.0 -

Heard 2 SAs talking in my local M and S today. One didn't know about the planned 20% off next Thursday, the other one said "Well it said so on that Martin Lewis's website so it must be happening"
