Another 20% off day at Marks and Sparks next Thursday! (4th Dec)

A good indicator that something like this is happening before official announcements is the big M&S store's opening hours, which are updated weekly on their website.
The Glasgow Argyle Street store usually opens at 9am on a Thursday, however last week they had the opening time as 8am for the Thursday (this was before any official announcement of the offer was made). It's back to 9am this week, so I don't think they're having a 20% off day this week - next week seems more likely.0 -

**edit** hot deals uk has this thursday as wellanyone work in M&S and know which is right?
Lol, I just posted a notice on hotukdeals mentioning your post about the article saying it was in December, then I noticed you'd just looked there there, too. Cross-referencing to hunt down those deals, we are, lol.0 -
There is rumoured to be 3 days, last thur, this thur and the following thur!0

I also got a message saying delivery delayed until 1st december - not much good when I'd ordered Christmas cards for overseas people. Phoned them this morning and said that should be the delivery date rather than the despatch date but call back if I do not receive it - bit late by then though!
Also I tried to order wine as well but noticed that they removed all the good wines from the web site later in the day when I had finally decided what to order and it wasn't to do with being out of stock as the number of products had reduced significantly - they'd been completely removed them - very sneeky!0 -
Ok - so now it is pssoible there will be one this and next Thursday - or just next Thursday. The media is confusing me! lolBeing bored is so boring Im bored of it... :rotfl:0

The fact that M&S haven't despatched their online orders from Thursday's event surely means they wouldn't be able to cope with additional orders if they did another event this Thursday.
It would make sense to do the event at the same time as Dine in for £10, which is due again next week.0 -
I did 2 online orders last Thursday. One has arrived today, and the other is marked as 'dispatched' in my account.0

I wont be getting some of my order from the last one til Xmas eve
i highly doubt it will arrive. However I did email last night and ask as my parcel should of arrived yesterday and got a reply saying they were going to split the order for me as Id recieve some pieces faster this way
So maybe worth a try to ask them to split the orderLove is the answer. At least for most of the questions in my heart,
Like why are we here? And where do we go?And how come it's so hard?
It's not always easy,And sometimes life can be deceiving,
I'll tell you one thing, its always better when we're together0 -

My order was split without asking. The majority of my items arrived yesterday, and one item was dispatched on Sunday, and I'm sure it'll be here within a day. Very good delivery service, especially considering it's free - well mine was as it was over the threshhold!!0 -

Makes sense though as none of the signage in the stores had a date on it, and therefore can be used again. They just said 20% off today.
Also looking at it from a financial view point it makes excellent business sense.
If you normal sell 1000 items at £1 profit on a Thursday (£1000 profit) and then knock off 20% but your volumes go up to 2000 (£1600 profit) for the same period. The overall profit goes up, despite the smaller profit margin on each item. Plus think of all those people that only visited M&S for the 20% and spent more than they would of. Anyone would of seen this had they joined a queue to pay last Thursday.
Can see this offer running again mid Dec for a final push on moving stock and releasing cashflow.
Not true, they're probably making a loss on most things in this sale. It's 20% discount to sales price rather than to profit. If they usually sell 1000 chocolate bars for £1.20, £1 cost and 20p profit, that's £1200 revenue; £1000 to break even before a £200 profit. If they then sell 2000 at £1.20 less 20%, i.e. 96p, the cost of the goods doesn't change but the profit margin does; it's been wiped out so they're making a 4p loss on each bar (£80 overall). Problem is they've bought all this stock but noone is buying it so they've got to get rid of it somehow before it goes out of fashion or goes off in the case of food. When you consider the overheads they have there won't be much that they're selling for a profit margin of more than 20% so I'm pretty sure they're making a loss. That said, they'd make a bigger loss if they didn't do it!0
