I have worked out that I can save £6.70 a week on my travel (and getting two buses to work instead of going through zone 1) by getting a zone 2-3 weekly travelcard (when i am in a better position i might be able to get a monthly one and save even more money, but i get paid weekly.0

When I applied for mine - they arrived in 2 days!
You're doing great.0 -

I gave up doing the lottery a few years ago after having the same numbers week in week out. I never check the numbers so they may have come up but I will never know. I now buy premium bonds every now and again as I can at least get the money back.Wendy0 -

you're right. maybe i should stop the lotto after all. it's confusing :-I0 -
Marriane, the thing about the lotto is that only 50p of every £1 you spend is actually used for prizes - so every time you spend £1 you are 'throwing away' 50p, and gambling only 50p. (Maybe I shouldn't say this as I run a charity which depends on money from the other 50p
) At least with premium bonds you know what the overall % payback is (it's pretty low, but a fun way of gambling at low cost).
2 further points about PB in case it's useful...
1. DON'T buy PB now, always buy close to the end of the month, as if you buy now they won't go into the draw until 1st March - if you buy by phone on 31st Jan they should still go into March draw (but check this out just in case you need a day or two's leeway). End Jan is actually a good time to buy as it's February which is then the month when you don't get any interest on the money, and Feb is the shortest month!
2. Sadly, you need to invest £100 the first time you buy PB - you can buy in £10 units thereafter.

Maybe it's just me
but I can't see why PB's are a good thing. You're dependant on wins to keep up with inflation, never mind get ahead. OK your 'stake money' is safe but it's a no-interest bank account with a possibility of not losing money in real terms.

I own £832 in premium bonds. I have owned the £32 for about 25 years and never won a thing on those numbers. The other £800 I have owned about 3 years. I have won £50 three times to I am pleased with that. Maybe I have just been lucky?Wendy0

I thought you waited a month before they netered a draw, regardless of the date you bought them. hmm. confused.
I have £250 worth already that I bought when I got a bonus 4 years ago, so I can buy in £10's
Thanks for the advice thoughjobbingmusician wrote:Marriane, the thing about the lotto is that only 50p of every £1 you spend is actually used for prizes - so every time you spend £1 you are 'throwing away' 50p, and gambling only 50p.
