my cat wont touch felix and whiskas gives her an upset tummy, she prefers asdas own brand0 -
rita-rabbit wrote: »To give your cats cheap cat food whether wet or dry all your doing is feeding them s.h.i.t.e. Why not try Raw. You may have a local butcher willing to give you the off cut of meat that they cannot sell to the public. You could also feed them the food you have for example, if your having mince meat, you could put some aside for the cats before you cook it.
If you don't fancy the idea of raw then at least feed them Whiskers or Felix rather then cheap nasty food like a supermarkets own brand.

the same manufacturers that make Whiskers & Felix make supermarkets own brand wet & dry food - you just pay more money for the same s.h.i.t.e:eek: ! I thought all moneysavers knew about branding cons!
Buy a measuring cup - feed proper dried food (don't free feed) & they can get their moisture from tap water. The younger you start them on it the better.
HI THERE I HAVE RESEQRCHED THIS FOR MONTHS WITH THE PROS.
DRY FOOD WILL BE CHAPER BUT NOT ALL CATS CAN TAKE IT (LOWER URINARY TRACT DISEASE => FREQUENT CAT PROBLEM PRTAILLLY CAUSED BY DRY FOOD).
THE BEST FOOD IS WET
BRANDE FOOD AND OWN SUPERMARKET FOODS ARE SOMETIMES MADE BY THE SAME MANUFACTURERS BUT NOT ALWAYS SO YOU NEED TO CHECK BEFORE AFFIRMNING OR YOU WILL MAKE A MISTAKE.
IN ALL CASES , EVEN WHEN MADE BY SAME MANUFACTURERS, BRANDED FOOD IS OF HIGHER QUALITY THAN OWN LABEL. AVOID OWN LABEL OR WILL AT SOME POINT PAY HIGHER VET FEES.
WHISKAS AND FELIX ARE NOT THE SAME WHISKAS IS A MUCH BETTER PRODUCT AT MEAT CONTENT IN GENERAL @14% WHETHER FELIX IS AT ONLY 4%!! (IN GENERAL). IF YOU MUST FEED THIS TO YOUR CAT (WHICH I REALLY DON'T RECOMMEND, CHOOSE WHISKAS)
AVOID IAMS (FROM COMPANY PROTER AND GAMBLE) AT ALL COSTS AS THEY SELL YOU GRAIN INSTEAD OF MEAT FOR CHEAP PROTEINS AND YET CHARGE YOU A PREMIUM PRICE (AND THEY ARE INVOLVED IN UNJUSTIFIED CATS AND DOG VIVISECTION ON FOOD, UNLIKE OTHER MANUFACTURERS).
WORST VALUE FOR MONEY BRANDS: SHEBA AND GOURMET. THEY ARE SELLING YOU PACKAGING BUT MEAT / FISH CONTENT IS DISGUSTINGLY LOW.
THE BEST EVERYDAY BRAND I FOUND WAS HI LIFE WET FOOD :T. BARELY MORE EXPENSIVE THAN WHISKAS, OFTEN LESS THAN IAMS, IT FEATURES A WHOPPING 60% MEAT OR FISH CONTENT. BEST VALUE FOR MONEY BY FAR.
YOU CAN FIND IT AT YOUR PET STORE OR SINASBURY'S AND I THINK IN SOME TESCOS TOO.
OTHER EVERY DAY GOOD VALUE FOR MONEY BRANDS ARE:
NATURES MENU: 70% MEAT CONTENT BUT A BIT MORE EXPENSIVE
ROYAL CANIN WET FOOD: LESS MEAT CNTENT BUT REALLY WELL BALANCED BUT A BIT MORE EXPENSIVE.
ONE LAST NOTE: THE VALUE OPTIONS FOR ANIMLAS ARE NOT LIKE THE VALUE OPTIONS FOR HUMANS: IT IS REALLY S.H.I.T.E YOU ARE FEEDING THEM, LIKE CHICKEN BEACKS AND BURNT HORSE HAIR / NAILS OR ALL KIND OF CRAZY STUFF / REJECTS FROM HUMAN FOOD MANUFACTURERS THAT IS REPACKAGED FOR PROFIT INTO ANIMAL "FOOD". FEEDING THIS TO YOUR CAT / DOG CAN IN MY EDUCATED OPINION AND THOSE OF SEVERAL VETSE ONLY CAUSE HEALTH ISSUES IN THE MEDIUM / LONG RUN. (I.E. IT IS NOT LIKE EATING HUMAN VALUE FOOD AT ALL, WHICH DOESN'T NECESSARILY PRESENT HEALTH ISSUES AT ALL)
HOPE THIS HELPS AND GOOD LUCK!0 -
Weve always fed our cat dry food (good quality type) but on a recent visit to the vets we were advised to change to a high quality wet food...this was due to the fact that she had suffered from various urinary probems, and was overweight even tho she was eating the light/diet versions of dry food.
She definately prefers the wet food, but weve found it more inconvinant, and slightly more expensive.
At the end of the day all pets are different and im guessing that some will prefer wet and some dry.0 -
Just a note to say that Royal canin cat dried food is half price on www.vetuk.co.uk , a very good buy @ the moment as it is usually v.expensive0

Question around this area, the Vet has said we must feed our cats Wet as opposed to the Hills Science Plan they had been on due to Urinal issues.
Are Pouchs the same foos as canned if from same range?0 -
Hi Life wet and dry, plus Feline Fayre wet (all 50%+ meat content) are a good price in Home Bargains at present. Cheap dry food is Jollyes Lifestage at 26% chicken but similar price to Whiskas and Go Cat which are 4% meat. Also for wet food Pets at Home Purely in the small tins (pouches are dearer) is very reasonably priced and high meat content.
Some cats will drink a lot more if you provide a moving water source such as a pet fountain - this can be good for urinary issues.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -

Read the ingredients on the back of the pouches or tins - many supposedly premium brands are still only 4% meat!! Some tinned meat are better than pouches and some pouches are better than tinned in the same range, also you don't always get what you pay for. Neither Whiskas nor Go Cat give you an ingredients breakdown on their websites which I think says it all.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -

Just noticed that about their sites - looking at the Pets at Home Wet you commented on but the tins are only fish, no other meats.0 -

So you need dried adult food yeah? I'll have a look. Do you want the premium or anything? I'd guess supermarket own brands might be cheapest really. I think tho it's worth paying for a quality food because it's so important. I'll go have a look! P@H do a great food but it's probably more than you'd want, not sure how much the dried is but the wet is £4 a box! I'll post once i've had a look!
How right you are! But then you go and spoil it by suggesting dried for a cat! Poor little obligate carnivores0 -
Applaws dry is really excellent ... pricey, but you can get some good deals on it. Some Sainsbury's stores also stock an own brand version of it called Encore. I free feed Applaws dry & also give one pouch of Hi Life wet a day. Works for us, and is affordable (I spend a little over £5 a week on cat food).0
