compatability issues? more relevant info, please (using vista 64 on 2 machines, adding a 3rd soon as I find a dvi>d-sub adapter)
A lot of programs I use claim not to be 64 bit compatible- I assume it actually means it won't work on there...

oooh this looks promising - we are desperately in need of a new computer, as you can probably tell by my typing errors!

I really wanted an iMac, partly because of the beautiful design (not for the label!) but also because my only use on the computer is photo processing and web surfing.

But now I am tempted by this. Is it the best deal going, can't be beaten by the likes of dell etc?

You wont get one now I'm afraid. This was a special deal for Aldi which sold out within minutes of each store opening. Head Office told someone yesterday that there were none left in the country.

  • I got the previous model, again a Medion from Aldis.
For what it's worth, it's been great for a family of 4.

that may well be true, only thing i've found is...er...strangely enough, nothing, but I only use my pc for gaming, internet, foilding and office apps...same as most people, I suppose.
Seems almost a waste to have a 64 bit processor and dual channel ram, then make it all works @ 32 bit only (though most software is still just 32 bit)

My mum's got a medion, my dad's got one, I've got a medion laptop, my uncle's got one, and my dad's best friend's got one.

    They're quite good... ;)

I got one of these PC's it has 2 CD's in it, labeled Medion Recovery disk, Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 and they look identical are these the 32bit and 64 bit disks, and if so how do you know which is which?

Also how can you change from 32bit to 64bit, if it comes with it, is there a way to switch back and forth between them?

And lastly my system shows it is 32bit but also shows 4GB ram shouldn't it not show less if not in 64bit?

As you're on x86 it would appear you have an x86 disc

There is a way to sidegrade an installation of x86 to x64 but it's comes with a personal strong recommendation not to attempt it. Switching back and forth isn't really an option without clean installations because you're changing the very foundations it's built around.

No, Vista 32bit will show how much memory there is available, but if you check Windows Task Manager under Performance it will tell you have much Physical Memory is available for use after the memory for graphics cards etc has been taken into account.

On the right hand side of each disk in small print it states 64-bit or 32-bit.

Cheers for your quick answers but how can I change it to 64 bit permanently then, is it fairly easy?

It seems the 64 bit system is the better one to go for and reading between the lines am I right in thinking it is compatible with the most popular software, i.e. office etc, or am I likely to keep hitting compatibility problems, with many different programs?

Cheers aliasojo, I see it now, must be getting old.
