There are talks of banning cheques as well, but you can still ask for cheques and postal orders for the time being.

Paperless payments have already been implemented on the US site, but the UK market still has a lot of "old school" cheque and PO users, so "there are no immediate plans to introduce this policy to the UK" according to an ebay pink.

And we know how much we can trust them to keep to their word...!

  • IMO, offering other payment methods now paypal is enforced is a complete waste of time, as no one will use them.

I am expecting my first cheque in months ...soon. Apparently it was posted Saturday for an auction that finished last Thursday.

Hate blooming cheques though as I just know I am going to get marked down for despatch, almost a week gone already and that's all the buyer will see when they are asked to rate the despatch time.

You have no choice but to offer PayPal as a method of payment.
But you have a choice as to whether you use it. You can still allow other methods and, I suppose, request that any purchaser uses the alternative.

Sadly ebay has brainwashed the sheep into believing that all other payment methods are unsafe, and some more naive sellers have been convinced that paypal is the only easy way to get paid.

Forcing paypal onto ebayers has nothing whatsoever with ebay wanting more profits from every sale....

Sadly some buyers still expect there to be some protection even when they don't use paypal. Such a shame when they find out that basically ebay just then say 'tough luck' and they lose their money.

A good seller will issue a refund no matter what payment method is used.

So you think that paying by cheque is safe?

I've had a couple problems with Paypal over the years. The fees have gone up. Plus, their dispute resolution is completely arbitrary.

But I would never pay by cheque these days. It's not just about the delay in getting the item. There is absolutely nothing to prevent the seller from taking your money and sending you nothing.

The last time I paid by cheque, the item never arrived. I asked the seller for a tracking number. The one he sent me wasn't valid. Then a month later, he had the same item for sale again. I contacted eBay to complain. They did nothing.

The seller had 50+ positive feedback, which is usually enough. But not this time. 25 quid down the drain.

As a seller, I'll accept a cheque and post the item once it clears. As a buyer, I always use Paypal.

Exactly, and some people over the months on here have indicated that is not their business model which is why it can't be relied on. I do refund which is why I am not at all frightened of accepting paypal obviously if it is not your policy to refund then yes paypal must seem very frightening.
