The DDA is a total joke and a sick joke at that.
Of the 4 breeds, 3 are hardly likely to be even seen in Europe.

As for the Pitbull, IME I have known 4 pits, who have made the most wonderful loving pets. An often mis-understood breed that is often mistreated my numpty "macho" owners.

Plus the average copper or RSPCA officer couldn't recognise a pit if it bit their arm, hence many staffs and staff crosses being pts.

There are no dangerous dogs, just dangerous owners.

There ARE dangerous dogs - but only dogs that are usually made so by the direct action OR lack there of from their owners, past or present.
We domesticated them - we are responcible for them and their behaviour.

As for Pits... they too can be VERY loyal and loving gentle pets - unfortunately they have a bad record because they are/were bred specifically for dog fighting - a crime that should carry a much heftier penalty in my view - both here and in the US where it is still widely taking place. I've never met one in the fur so to speak but I'd know one a mile of I think :) Why? Because I've spent too much time researching dog fighting for something once. These dogs ironically are 99% of the time people friendly but extreemly dog aggressive (only through training!).

Unfortunately once a dog has reached that point my view is that it's probably beyond where it can safely be re-homed as a pet.

Most of the banned breeds are not banned because of their temper but because people have started using them for dog fights - something cruel and dispicable...

sounds like the family concerned are not aware of appropriate human social behaviour let alone their responsibilities as a dog owner. so she was going to sort you out? and am guessing she enjoys the fact that paople are wary of her dog too . very wrong and unfair on the dog and both girls, report her anonamously if you are worried about a confrontation. the kids shouldnt be walking a dog that is too strong for them to handle

rotties are no more likely to bite than others in fact i think the breed most likely to bite is the yorkie. (my staffy cross is terrified of them lol ) however when they bite is is usually a worse injury and a more frightening experience. i am an experienced, responsible dog owner . i love dogs and have an affection for most animals but i have to say i would not be comfortable with a child walking a rotty, it's a size /weight ratio thing. its not sensible

one of the most tear inducing sights i have seen was 2 rotties providing support for my friends 10yr old daughter enabling her to walk - she has cerebal palsy and comes out of the wheel chair with dog either side of her and they walk at her pace so she can lean on them.

I have an extremely ill mannered, naughty, stubborn fur ball of distruction commonly known as a cocker spaniel and there is no way i would let my 15 year old walk her as even at that age, i dont feel that she should be responsible for my dogs lack of behaviour. and i didn't let my son walk my Lab til he was 15 as although i knew my dog well well behaved and controlled i have seen too many times other peoples dogs not under control (even though i am now one of those people thanks to devil hound!) and a child should not have to deal with any potential dog scrap or worse alone.
