Pigpen and Greenbee - have you both got the same thing and if so what is it? Well if not what is it I am a nosey c0w? Intrigued by th mention of anti inflammatories...

Not sure what's up with Pigpen, but I have chronic disc disease (basically thin dribbly discs instead of bit fat shock-absorbing ones) and have done pretty much all my life (I've certainly had symptoms since I was about 10). This has lead to all sorts of back pain/referred pain/mobility issues in the past. It was only after I came off the medication (due to an adverse reaction that ended me up in neurology being checked out for motor neurone & MS) that I actually started to be able to solve the problem (the drugs work on your brain far more effectively that on your body  ).

It started with physio & hydro, and progressed to Pilates & yoga... and I did the moonwalk earlier this year, so I'm pretty fit, even when I'm being lazy :p . I've had to adapt (I keep all my cast iron saucepans on top of my kitchen units, as I can lift down but not up... if things are on the floor, I ignore them on bad days), and assisted collection for the bins, adjustements at work - priority parking, a special chair, swiss ball, and proper docking station, screen & keyboard at home and in the office (arranged by Occ Health so as to avoid DDA problems as you don't have to be registered disabled to qualify for adjustments at work), and for quite a while, I outsourced the housework and ironing until I was able to manage it myself (by doing up the house so it was easier!).

If it gets bad now, I use TENS at work, and spend more time in the pool and sauna. If that fails, then I add in massage & physio, and use a stick at work (it keeps people from knocking into me as much as anything else). I'd probably have fewer bad patches if I went back to the podiatrist and had my orthotics replaced, but they don't fit in my 4" stilettos anyway :o

I'm sure pigpen also has plenty of strategies for coping, but its easier for me to do what I need to as I live on my own. Mind you, it does mean that there is no one to help if I'm on my own and can't get downstairs. It takes for ever going down on my bum!

My GP still tells me to lose weight, but knows I won't  . However, although I don't get as much exercise as I used to (at one point I spent up to 10 hours a week at pilates/yoga/swimming/body balance/workouts, which really got me sorted after coming off the pills), I still try to make sure that if I start having symptoms I get back to exercising. And I see definite benefits when I eat properly (I don't get on with sugar, it's bad for my digestion :o AND it makes me more sensitive to pain).

I have found a combination of eating a diet with LOTS of vegetables in it, getting plenty of various kinds of exercise (running round after your kids/menagerie probably counts as part of this), cutting down on booze, sports massage, physio (particularly hydrotherapy), saunas, hot baths, hot water bottles, yoga, pilates and TENS means that I can manage without pain relief most of the time. Water is probably the best relief for me, and if I'm not well enough to swim, I go to the nice warm hydro pool :D I'm sure you can find a solution that doesn't mean melting your brain & f***ing up your body with long-term pain relief...

... try yogi tea as an anti-inflammatory. The cinnamon one will probably be most effective, but they've all got the relevant spices in...

... so now you know, if you don't do something about it I will BORE you into giving in :rotfl:

pools.. no chance.. they have had other people genitals.. warts and all .. in them.. gross!

    eating... yeah.. that's funny!

    bear tea.. *shudder*

Give it your best boring shot.. I'll ignore you.. LMAO... fingers in ears and lalala-ing...

I'll not mention it again.. promise..

ETA in reply to a question.. I have rheumatoid (hands and wrists) and osteoarthritis in my legs (ankle to hip). Thankfully my back is fine but my hips and particularly my left knee are chronic.. but we do what we must to survive..

and where is the sloe gin........
Good luck with the shows this week and the interview tomorrow - you are busy - and glad to hear you have been discharged - even though not with the outcome you wanted... :o
Ohhh, and the sloe gin is with the fast vodka...:rotfl: (sorry, couldn't resist... oh, and Pink, I know it's a type of gin, not really slow... just in case you thought I was having one of my turns again...:D )

Sorry guys, I was trying to catch up (read up to page 14), but it's gone 12 and I really need to get some sleep - busy couple of days ahead... :)

Off to Bushey tomorrow, have had a carp day today, woke up with bad head but managed to work through it to get the Kitchen mostly done, then went shopping for rest of stuff for tomorrow, forgot to get extra curtains for one of the rooms we are working on and I lost DS's phone he lent me after the dogs decided to chew mine up on Saturday night...

Had to go into Vodafone shop to report on insurance and get a temp replacement until they get me a new one on Friday - bit of a bummer as I was getting a new one this week anyway on a free upgrade, now have to pay the £25 excess for this one... need to do it as now owe that to DS to replace his one that I have just lost... mmmm, after all that, I'm glad I got to bed OK today...:D ;)

Will pop on in the morning and hopefully catch up a bit, if not, see you tomorrow night... sweet dreams all x

you must be in pain all the time!!! how horrible - thats worse than anything! some of the healthy things - glucosamine etc do help - I personally know several people who have found a huge difference and they are not too expensive (sell something on ebay to cover it!) espec if you buy online!
