In other measures, Mr Darling speeded up the introduction of rises in child benefit and slowed down the introduction of increases in vehicle excise duty.
This year's increase in the income tax personal allowance of £120 a year for basic rate taxpayers will be made permanent and increased to £145 in April, helping 22 million basic rate taxpayers - another 500,000 households not just this year but for good.
The 45% top rate will not come into effect until after the next general election, meaning Labour will not break its 2005 manifesto commitment on raising income tax.
The cut in VAT comes into effect on Monday in time for Christmas shopping. Mr Darling's Commons statement heralds the biggest shake-up of Labour's economic policy since it came to power in 1997.
See.. labour aren't all bad.. though we know the 'other team' will get in next time and increase the tax and they'll claim it is to cover 'Labours debt' which was run up putting their mistakes right from last time they wrecked the economy...
VAT at 15% puts it in line with other countries, such as Germany, so is fine by me.. but my christmas shopping is all but done too and the shops won't decrease their prices they will claim they are having a 'sale' to lead us into believing we are saving more than we are because they all think we are stupid and cannot see it... like the 99p thing... we KNOW £999.99 is 1p off £1000 .. we can add up! SURPRISE!

Hi,
Hope everyone is well and welcome newbies. Didn't get much sleep last night:mad: so feel a bit rough today. So far I've attended a meeting, done errands and sorted through my husband's clothes in preparation for our move. Can't do any laundry as washing machine has gone bust  My aims for the rest of the day are to wash up and do more packing and errands.
By the way, are there any threads anywhere on getting organised for moving house0 -
Good luck Pigpen!
Tumble dryers - I use dryer balls or old (clean) tennis balls in mine when I'm drying towels and it really helps. If you've got a stove then you don't have to dry them completely, as you can air them overnight. It does help with the worst of it, and reduces the condensation in the house.
Window cleaners - round me it's £15 for a 3 bedroom house (OAPs get a discount), and it's done every 5 weeks apparently, depending on the weather. The things that annoy me about mine, while we're on the subject: I never know when he's going to turn up, so if I'm in the house the first I know is usually a face appearing at the window; I've asked him to knock and let me know if he's in, as quite often if I'm at home I'm going into work later so a. need to be able to get my car out (he never parks in the car park across the road, always in my drive even if he's doing several other houses) and b. am probably in my pjs and need to have a shower/get dressed as well); and he never leaves his address for me to send the money to (he doesn't knock when he's finished to collect the money either), so I have to try to remember where I've filed it and then post a cheque... so I only do this once a quarter now; and he never does the doors or the utility room window. It is worth having done though (just), particularly now I keep the insides clean too!
Must finish work and get myself onto the M4...!0 -

LL - Thanks. I'm still quite breathless at times, but not nearly so much pain.
Been to Abergavenny with DS, GF and "mother". GF has problems with tendons following her broken wrist so has to do exercises. We then went for a wander around Abergavenny which was actually quite nice (usually half hour is enough with her!) had lunch and bought DH a lovely leather jacket from Oxfam, new for £15. Bargain! Christmas sorted - I think so.
Holly - hope the Antibiotics work quickly.
Pigpen - my window cleaner charges £10 and we have 10 windows, 2 doors and a patio door. He usually comes every 6 weeks or there abouts.
Gryfon - DH loves "Chicken Supreme" which is chicken in a basic white sauce.ok drum roll please..................................................................................
I have stripped the room down and filled a wheele bin. OMG did it need doing and it looks so much better now that it is done. Although saying that I have hiden some things as I was getting too tierd I know that they are waiting for me but hey the room looks nice.
I am still in a bad mood, but getting there slowly. Picked my DD up from school at 3:15 then 15 minutes later dropped her at the salvation Army lol so me gets a bit longer to my self.
I am chilling on the sofa at the moment, think I deserve it lol
Well done! Bad mood or not, I bet you feel heaps better for that, don't you?

SS Kitchen, Bathroom, [STRIKE]Shower room[/STRIKE]
Make beds
DW,WM, BM, CM
Feed dogs, cats and fish
Groom dogs and cats
Walk dogs - I may be up to going round the block (1st time in a month) - not sure I'll manage that.
Also want to do what I can from here:
Manic Monday - Kitchen, Utility and Dining Room/Area
[STRIKE]Level One
Clean floors in these areas [/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]Level Two
Wipe down surfaces
Wipe kitchen cupboard fronts and kickboards[/STRIKE]
Wipe down fronts of major appliances (cooker, fridge, freezer etc) and inside the microwave
Level Three
Dust any extra furniture in dining area, checking for cobwebs on way round
Clean washer drawer, filters on the dryer, dishwasher and cooker hood filters
Clean the oven if missed last week or it needs it - will do after dinner!
Extra tasks - if you want to do more:
Wipe window sills and clean windows in these rooms
Wipe down any tiles and shine those taps, a toothbrush is great for cleaning away the gunk!
Empty one shelf (or the top of a cupboard) clean it, clean what's on it and put it all back (did this last week)
Clean out and organize one cupboard, more if you like (and this)
Wipe & replace small appliances like kettle, toaster etc (wipe under too, especially the toaster!)
And I've put the casserole in the slow cooker!
Got to go to town for a few bits, but am trying to go with the "shop like your granny used to" scheme. Maybe tomorrow?
May go for paint for the base coat in the lounge as well. If DH gets ceiling done, he can begin the walls later!Maybe tomorrow???
Off to peel spuds for dinner!

Miserable now, called 20 minutes before 6 about this quadbike just to hear that someone called at 9am! What's the point in putting call after 6pm if you're going to give it to someone at 9am! Just want to cry now although there was no reason I would have got it anyway. Damn hormonesFluttering about an inch off the ground, I may fly properly one day and soar in the clouds!

toottifrootti wrote: »Hi fedupandskint - like I said to fertyskids and Sammy_girl you are very welcome here - dont be scared we dont bite (well most dont!!!) Just dive in and take the rooms as they come along - do what you can and dont stress about the bits you miss they will come up next week again. If you manage level 1 every day that will be brilliant - Your home didnt get in a mess overnight so dont expect it to get tidy overnight!!! baby steps is the way to do it - do NOt try to do it all at once - you will wear yourself out and sicken yourself too (believe me - we've all done!)
A new room is added everyday so by the end of the week you will have been round the house! After 2 or 3 weeks you will see a difference and everything gets easier each week.
Welcome to the madhouse - the support and encouragement is the best!!
