instead of going straight on, turn right, at the mini roundabout go left and park outside the ibis hotel next to the car park entrances, the yellow lines there are as good as non existant.
You pay airport tax, IMO that should cover the drop off fee.0 -

which was really the point of my OP.MrSmartprice wrote: »It is exactly that! Using security concerns to squeeze extra money out of unsuspecting punters is a scandal. Another one I have seen is selling the little plastic bags for your liquid bottles at the airport for 50p a time. Yet other airports happily supply them for nothing.
I have also read in the Times today that you can pay £3 a time to jump the queue at the security checks. Rip-off Britain just about sums it up.
unless you know the ropes at BHX, it's easy for anyone to be suckered into parting with a squid just by following road signs.
now, I know different.
typical of us Brits to meekly cough up, complain quietly and forget all about it.
we're supposed to dislike the french, but I've got a sneaking admiration for them: if they object to something en masse they simply ignore it/down tools.
my g/father (non-brit) once made this observation: 'if I had one criticism of the british it would be this - they put up with just about anything'.
am I making too much fuss about a £1 charge? maybe, but - like you - I get hugely annoyed with any kind of 'entrapment charge' that awaits the unsuspecting.
this is one of them, and it won't happen to me/OH again.miladdo0 -
On a related issue you now have to pay £1 to use a luggage trolley at Luton airport.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

Saw two games while out there this month. Our local team won away 5-0!!! But could only draw at home against NINE men from a 'basement' team. Also, although I didn't see them, they managed to lose 1-0 nil yesterday against another NINE men from lower in the league.
One other anomoly - the top club has a played 13, won 12, lost 1 record. Guess who beat them! Yep - our team!It is permissible to stop on double yellow lines to drop passengers unless there are also no unloading markings (Highway code)
Not sure what they're filming then - must be an airport regulation to prohit stopping. No one ever parks up there.0
