You can still unofficially do a quick drop off at what used to be the coach car park. The official drop-off point where you had to pay today is clearly a paying car park, it doesn't come as a surprise that there is a charge.

It is exactly that! Using security concerns to squeeze extra money out of unsuspecting punters is a scandal. Another one I have seen is selling the little plastic bags for your liquid bottles at the airport for 50p a time. Yet other airports happily supply them for nothing.

I have also read in the Times today that you can pay £3 a time to jump the queue at the security checks. Rip-off Britain just about sums it up.
  • yep either drop off at railway station or go to long stay 2 which is FREE for 2 hours.

There is a huge illuminated, flashing sign before getting into the airport saying that long stay 2 it is free for an hour!

thanks for the explanations but I'm still amazed.

can't think of any other service point that charges for simply coming to a halt! (although someone else might).

But you had to take a ticket to get into the car park?

You could have stopped at the bus stop outside, but the armed police are normally there within 30 secs.....

Actually it's Long Stay 1 and it's free for 1 hour - however if you pop your ticket in the pay station just before the hour's up, you then get an additional 20 mins or so to get out of the car park.

I parked in the Long Stay car park yesterday and it only took 5 mins (yes, I timed it) to walk from there to the terminal - problem was finding a space once in the car park! :wall:

no chance of drop-off on roadside (double yellows, cones, security staff, etc.) without risking a confrontation, which OH wasn't up for.

ftr: next time I drop-off at BHX, it'll be roadside and possible arguments.

One more warning- they've recently had a camera van parked in the bus/coach-stop area photographing cars dropping off in there! Double yellows!

It is permissible to stop on double yellow lines to drop passengers unless there are also no unloading markings (Highway code)

we always go to the rail station too and use the link to the airport, thats where my husband is now picking up my son who has been to Paris for the weekend. You can park in the short term station car park free for 20 minutes there are no barriers to get in or out and I don't think they check that much either. There is also parking almost outside the station entrance for about 8 cars without restriction people usually sit in thier cars waiting to pick people up but I have seen cars parked there unoccupied.
