hopefully tommorow i should find out if i have a 2 bed city centre newbuild in birmingham on a dirt cheap rent from a housing association.
long predicted and has been happening, but now its going full scale, unsold city centre new builds are being bought up by housing associations.
rents are going to collapse in these places, my rent is £550 a pcm, the private sector value in my block is £750 pcm (some are in excess of 800 for the same property as mine)
after being shown around the 2 bed flat, i told the estate agent that this was not a 2 bed flat but a 1 bed flat. I am going to use one of the bedrooms as a living room and the kitchen/living room as a kithchen only.
i have lived in council & HA's properties most of my life and this flat is a 1 bedroom flat not a 2 bedroom.
as some point i can see a whole scale rebranding of these properties from 2 bed to 1 beds, 1 beds to studios and studios to bedsits!

After youve signed Id also report the EA for property misdiscriptions!!
Speak to your local trading standards.
they should never advertise a 2 bed flat when its really a one bed.
How much are one beds to privately rent in the block. I hope you are getting a good deal.
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -

but then every new build developer will need to be reported to trading standards. this was the first time i had ever seen a new build and i was shocked, looking at rightmove nearly every new build flat is the same.
i think it is a good deal, the one beds are going for £600-650 but they have a combinded kitchen/living room. other flats similiar to mine are being advertised privatley as 2 bed flats0 -
There's a 2 bed flat in Leeds coming up for auction with Barnard Marcus with a guide price of £65k. Last sold in 2005 for £175k.
A lot of the new-build private sector blocks don't meet the requirements for public sector housing. Hence the Op complaining that his 2 bed flat was actually only big enough to be used a one-bedder, presumably as an argument to get a lower rent.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

Which development is it? I wouldn't call £550 dirt cheap for a one (or even two) bed apartment in Brum. I wouldn't say it was expensive, but certainly not dirt cheap.Gone ... or have I?0 -

this is not my flat, but one exactly the same, a saving of £245 a month!0 -
We rent a 2 bed riverside apartment in Newcastle at £650 which includes all bills. I think the £750pcm is a gross over estimate on behalf of the EA's."a workman, even of the lowest and poorest order, if he is frugal and industrious, may enjoy a greater share of the necessaries and conveniences of life than it is possible for any savage to acquire."0

I'd not call that dirt cheap! Unless it's for a couple.hopefully tommorow i should find out if i have a 2 bed city centre newbuild in birmingham on a dirt cheap rent from a housing association.

It's Birmingham, I have a friend in a posh bit that rents a house with: 2 beds, attic bedroom, converted cellar, good sized back garden for that much!0 -
Not much space in that kitchen area for the compulsory MSE batch-cooking and breadmaking!http://www.rightmove.co.uk/viewdetails-23675063.rsp?pa_n=1&tr_t=rent&mam_disp=true

in terms of size and no. of rooms compared to flats i have lived in before the new build era, and council/HA flats since then. this for all intents and purposes is a one bedroom flat as far as i am concerned.
i.e.
one bedroom
one living room (described as second bedroom)
one bathroom
one kitchen (described as living room/kitchen)
hence my 2 bedder is really a 1 bedder, as to what that makes the 1 bedder i dont know, but its certainly not a 1 bed flat, cos mine is.0
