Hi
Just hit one lin and it started playing, so wqill loo properly later.
And spotted your sig - as a backpacker and off track walker, I agree literally and metaphorically. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
back again!!!!!
Some great links on their ceridwen. Will defo be linking into some of them if I get going on a local project this spring.
Not usre what was up yesterady but everything refused to work - yutube, links etc. Today - all fine. No flash message this am though. Wonder if they updated at the main server? If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
I have 3 of those collapsible potato growbag thingies - you know the sort - ie 3 for £15 green ones.
Dead ignorant question from me time - presumably 1 sprouting potato = 1 potato plant?
How many potato plants can one grow per container?
(RAS - you're welcome - about using those links. Its obviously myself I am being concerned with feeding primarily. However, I am searching across the Internet generally as to how we maintain our food security as a nation - I want to make sure that people generally are fed whatever happens.)0 -
Yes - 1 seed potato = 1 potato plant.. it is 3 seed potatoes per container if I remember rightly..0

this is going to take the biscuit for the daftest question yet--but bear with me, I had a long day LOL!
how do I grow cress? has it to be from seed ? can I grow it now ?0 -
yes you can... a saucer with some damp kitchen roll or cotton wool or thin layer of compost, sprinkle with cress seeds - keep surface damp.0

whoo hoo ! brings back memories of primary school ! I will try this !0

...and thinking along those lines (ie growing cress on damp paper) - I'm very vaguely remembering summat about starting off initial germination of any seeds on damp paper, to see if they are still viable - so that one can tell after just a few days presumably (rather than sticking them in soil and sitting wondering for several weeks if they're actually "doing anything").
As some of my seeds are a bit "old" now - I think it might be best to do this with them before getting them going "properly". Would this work? (I know I resurrected a jar of alfalfa seeds I've had for a while and tried sprouting them in my sprouter t'other day - end result: about 50% of them didnt - hence I'm thinking with bigger seeds I should be able to do this and get an idea which ones were "dead").0 -
Morning Ceridwen -
If you are doing parsnips (notoriously bad at germinating) -thats the best way to start them off.. on a sheet of damp tissue with a damp one on top...place in a small plastic bag on a window bottom -a small spur will appear on those that have germinated.. you can than plant them and know there will be no gaps (saves on wasting precious space)
Someone did mention that using a coloured serviette is good if your eyesight isn't great -as they show up better-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
Not sure if its been posted before but ordinary builders buckets (black for heat absorbtion) are great for growing early potatoes. I drill several large holes in base for drainage. The handles make them easy to move about (useful when covering against late frosts or putting in a sunny area) and 2 seed potatoes sown in early March will usually give 0.5 kg of new potatoes as early as late May or up to 1 kg if left longer. Buckets cost less than £1 so this is a cheap and cheerful way of GYO if you havent got veg bed space. The buckets can be used for a second crop of a different veg when emptied of potatoes. Spent compost can then be added to your raised beds in winter. When not in use buckets can be stacked to avoid wasting space.0
