OS treats

I am doing well at money saving and living the OS way :j but I have a bad habit of wanting to treat myself with the odd bar of chocolate, a magazine or a toy for my dd etc etc. If I am honest with myself I probably waste about £40 a month on treats! Things I can't even remember buying a few days later:rolleyes:
What OS treats do you indulge in? Did anyone out there break this sort of habit in their pursuit of money saving?

we often have popcorn as a treat after a meal, it's cheap and goes further than a bar of chocolateI am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards. If I fancy a splurge I go to a car boot sale but set a limit on how much I'll spend and only take that amount with me, plus I always haggle!I won't buy it if I can make or borrow it instead

If I'm desperate for a choc. hit I now buy a Freddo bar. Only 15p each and fulfills the criteria. That means its about a third cheaper than a regular choc. bar so I get what I want/need and save money. It still feels like a treat too.0

I cured the magazine habit by joining the library. I saw a book I really fancied in W.H. Smiths the other week. It was a Guardian "recommended read". Only £2.99 if you bought the Guardian.
I went home, logged onto the library site and reserved it for 80p. Less than a week later it was in my house. Bargain! OK, so I had to give it back, but by the time I want to read it again, it will be less popular and I won't have to pay to reserve it.
For childrens toys, go to the charity shop. There isn't much that can't either be bleached or put through the washing machine. Mine loves it because he can have pretty much whatever he picks (prices usually £1 tops in our British Heart Foundation shop), and when he no longer plays with whatever it is, it goes back to the charity shop, with a clear conscience of not having wasted too much money.
As for the chocolate, well if you really want chocolate, only chocolate will do, sorry, can't help you there!0 -
i get my chocolate from aldi. for the price of a normal mars bar for example you get 6 of their version for the same price! They;re called Titan bars if anyones interested! What matters most is how well you walk through the fire0

I love chocolate, it's the treat I wouldn't want to give up. I try to only buy when my favourites on offer (expensive tastes, I like Green and Blacks and Lindt) and stock up a bit. Otherwise I love a trip to Home Bargins, came out with two carrier bags this morning, Appletize, Twix, Sensations crisps, Foxes biscuits and more and spent less than a fiver. If you need to control your treats try to limit them to weekends so you've got something to look forward to.0
