check with Natwest if you can open an a/c without the certificate, scottish widows are doing this & i'm sure others will be aswell. just need to send the certificate at a later date :)
    Birmingham Midshires wouldn't. Barstewards :(

So it's definitely ok to move the money out of the linked account? The certificate won't dictate that the source of the money has to come from the account the FSCS paid into? Can anyone actually confirm this having spoken to the FSCS?

If it does I]The certificate won't dictate... etc[/I , just move it back into the linked acount before you pay to transfer the ISA.

You might as well flip a coin as ask the FSCS-yoof a question of such detail.

Agreed - though I was told by Scottish Widows that I could still apply for my new ISA and send the certificate once I've got it. Application is in progress, so will know in a couple of weeks how smooth it's been.
I'm aiming to put my ex-Icesave ISA in a Scottish Widows ISA. Can you tell me how you went through the transfer-in process as that process expects the money to be already held in an ISA account, rather than your Icesave linked account with ISA certificate?
  • scottish widows - i was sent cash isa application, isa transfer request & an additional form to confirm icesave a/c info.

we've got 2 isa's to be transferred, claim initiated on mine so i have enclosed a personal cheque for the total amount from icesave. OH's is yet to be claimed so i've just put a note on the application form that a transfer from xx bank a/c will be done when funds are available.

this is what scottish widows advised when i spoke to them.

we'll soon see how smooth it goes when thet get the application forms etc!

interested to hear what others have done...
  • I just sent the normal ISA opening form, but also the ISA transfer form with my ISA details on as that was what I was told to do on the phone. I also sent a covering letter explaining why I had included both forms, why my cheque was from my current account, and why the amount was greater than £3600.

Only just sent off, so don't know outcome yet.
  • Meant to say above that my ISA transfer form included details of the Icesave ISA account.

What interest rate does Scottish Widows pay? Is it any good?

From memory it's 6% including 1.5% bonus for 12 months. They are probably going to drop it soon tho as I don't think they've dropped it since the last cut yet. Martin mentions it in his ISA article.

I went to RBS (part of Natwest) at lunchtime and they definitely said they couldn't. They said they'd tried it for someone already and it had really got messed up.
