Had 2 calls from that number this morning one at work when the phone just went dead when I answered it and a missed call when I got home! Just away to complain to TPS!0

We were away for a week at the end of January and during our absence left the answerphone switched on. When we returned, there were no messages. But the "caller list" on our phone (Panasonic) showed that during our absence we had been telephoned between 1pm and 1.30pm and 5pm and 5.45pm on five consecutive days.
We have Caller Display but all our calls showed "International: Out of Area".
The calls continued after we returned home for one more day and we picked up only for the (presumably) auto-dialler connection to terminate.
We have not been bothered since but wonder if there is any way of identifying 'out of area' calls in Caller Display?0 -

the numbers dialled are just randomly generated, it matters not if you are ex directory, they've just hit your number by luck and persistence, no one has given your number away0 -
Received the call this afternoon. The recording got as far as "You've won a holiday" before I hung up. They are sooo boring. [Yawn]0

Had these on our answermachine at work today, we have 2 incoming lines and there was one left on each number. No message but it say they called at 20.48 and 20.51 and the numbers were 01789 99999999 and 001 789 999999999.
What a complete nuisance. Glad I don't have a home phone!0 -
Waitrose are talking complete rubbish.
1) There is no way that an incoming call can suddenly be converted to an outgoing call
2) There is no tariff that high
See this BBC article on the myth, amongst many others.
Waitrose MAY NOT be talking rubbish, I remember some years ago when I worked in tech support for a large international mobile network, It was possible, by initiating a key press some foreign networks can instigate a return signal to a landline that generates a dialling tone this can then be utilized to dial out to a premium rate number a bit like setting up a conference call. whether this loophole was ever closed I dont know, but, as with most loopholes if there is one there is bound to be others.
and 0178999999999 called me this morning at 07:45
Remember trust no-one, they're all out to get you !!

The scammers rang my phone tonight. Unfortunately my girlfriend is too curious for her own good and pressed the damn 9 button.
I grabbed the phone off her and hung up and went to dial 1471 to see who it was.
They were still connected and as i picked up the phone to dial i heard a guy saying "hello?"
I asked him to hang up as we werent interested, and he said "well you pressed 9" So i hung up on him.
I left it a few seconds and went to check he had gone, he was still there. I told him to hang up once more and he laughed and said "why should i, you are being charged £50 per...."
I cut him off there and pulled the phone cord out the wall. I can only assume his next word was minute and not second!
As we are with Orange not BT, i had to suffer 10 minutes of nonsense about my package before i could even ask them how much i had been charged for the scam call. When i finally could the answer was - we can't check that on our systems.
DONT ever leave BT its not worth it.
After looking all over the net it seems that we are left with the following outcomes:
A) we dont get charged for an autodialler calling uswe get stung for a few seconds of the 50 quid
C) we get charged the minimum 5 minutes call duration and are stuck with a 250 pound bill !!
now we're left with an agonising wait til the online billing service updates itself. I am so angry at these companies being allowed to do this, and we can do nothing about it.
hopefully the outcome wont be too bad, i'll post back up again when i have more info.
In the meantime though, don't ever press the 9 key on calls like this, its obviously rubbish!0 -
I think that all phone companies, should block these numbers.
Thats why i give my sipgate number out to companies :rotfl:
I dont believe you get charged, But you never know, Because it look like this is what the scammers want you to do.
Talk to them about the "holiday" and apparently irritate them.
If you get a bill for this number, refuse to pay. And if everyone did it then the phone companies will FINALLY do something about this :money:0 -
today at 0453 I was woken by a robotic voice saying 'congratulations you have'...they didn't get any further as my phone went down...:mad:0

So far very lucky, moved house over two months ago and got new number, so far not a single cold caller, not one, zip
. No one on about 'free' holidays in Florida, why I should invest in fine wines or just ordinary stocks and shares, take up someones mobile phone or double glazing deal, have I had an accident which is not my fault, do I want a quote for this, that or the other insurance, etc. Bliss knowing that if I pick the phone up it will actually be someone I actually want to speak to. Won't last I suppose although we are ex directory.
