Nuisance call from 0178999999999

I'll put this with and without spaces, just in case it's being Googled.
Format 1: 0178999999999
Format 2: 01789 99999999
This is the latest (spoofed imo) number calling with a pre-recorded American voice saying "you've been randomly selected to win a holiday to Florida [blah, blah, blah, we've all been here before, right?] Press 9 to speak to someone."
Guess what? Pressing 9 does nowt. Sweet Fine Apples. The number's engaged/unobtainable if you try ringing it back. I've logged a complaint with TPS.
If anyone else gets this, I recommend you do the same; if we can get the company name, even better!

Nobody on whocallsme seems to have a definite answer to this one. I usually check there if I have nuisance callers who won't leave a message. I've been called by this number a few times, but not recently.0

I think my mum had a similar call a few months ago, we were all upstairs listening, then the message just went round and round, repeating it about 5 times!0

smileygill: I checked whocallsme as well, and thought I'd post here too so it shows up in more places.0

When i received a phone from US telling me I'd won a holiday I went on with their ploy for about 30min.
They requested my card details but before i could "give them" any details I asked them irrelevant questions and pretended to be interested in the holiday and completely gullible.
The calls from US have ceased since then.0 -

WhocallsmeE-Mail from Waitrose
There are a number of telephone scams currently in operation with the criminals trying to obtain credit card details or to get you to connect to a premium rate number.
The callers claim that they are either ringing on behalf of Waitrose or from the 'Waitrose Rewards department', (there is no such department).
The ones we are currently aware of are calls to say:
1. You have been awarded either a prize or a holiday in a competition being run in conjunction with Waitrose. You are then asked to provide credit card details to claim the prize.
2. There is a problem with your order, please press 1 for more information.
3. Friends or family have entered you in a Waitrose competition to win a holiday. Congratulations on your win, please press 1 for more information.
With the last two, pressing 1 connects you to a foreign premium rate number at £50 per minute.
Should you receive calls such as these or other variations, no matter how plausible they may seem, under no circumstances should you give out your details or press 1, simply hang up.
If you have inadvertently given your details you should report this to your local police as soon as possible.
Rest assured that if Waitrose were involved in a competition of this type, we would never ask for bank or credit card details or ask you to press buttons on the phone for more information.
Regards,

I got that call 2 days ago, only listened to the ore recorded voice up till Florida and put the phone down as it was obviously a load of old carp! Didn't get to check the number as I was expecting a call from my mum, and she called a minute later!A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0

Had a call from this number (01789 99999999) this morning. My son had a similar call. Both in the same area of Northern Ireland. On a previous call, not from the same number, I decided to press 3 instead of the number suggested and got the following message 'Your number has been removed from our calling list' I had said to my son about this and on this occasion he pressed 3 and got the same message. It might be worth a try!!0

With the last two, pressing 1 connects you to a foreign premium rate number at £50 per minute.
1) There is no way that an incoming call can suddenly be converted to an outgoing call
2) There is no tariff that high
See this BBC article on the myth, amongst many others.0
