I have to say I agree with both of these suggestions. Cheese strings are disgusting anyway, they taste like rubber! My daughter loves them but I refuse to buy them, she only gets to eat them at nanny's house. If they had real cheese cubed and in a tub that would give them more protein and therefore be more filling that the processed counterpart. quote]

After my LO seeing the advert. She asks for REAL CHEESE, as this is what is on the advert...... I tell her it's not real cheese....... I will never buy them.

    Hi

As a Mum of 2, 1 at school already and the second due to start in September, I am conscious of how much kids packed lunches are starting to cost with the price hikes (especially if you give in to any of the Faddy things kids ask for) I rarely do unless on BOGOF's.

I wondered if I could have a few ideas of what you do for your kids packups, how much they cost etc... so I can try and bring the costs down.

How much do you think they need etc?

Currently my DD has (as an example):

    1 slice of bread sandwich
    1 banana
1 handful raisins in a pot
some cheese (or cheesestring if on offer)
    a yogurt
a cereal bar. (ID love a recipe for HM if anyone has one)

    thanks

    Smitty

    Hi smitty,

There's a recent thread with loads of ideas that should help so I've added your thread to it to keep all the suggestions together.

For homemade cereal bars have a look at this thread:

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated:T

My kids are getting really bored with the standard pack lunch [sandwiches, crisps, biscuit, fruit]. BUT to let them all [3] have packed lunches I'd be looking at nearly £30.00 a week! ! !

PLEASE HELP ME ! ! ! ! Getting desperate now

    Thanks in anticipation

    Hello

How about quiche? I buy ready made bases (around 54p) fill them with my DD favourite vegetables sprinkle over some cheese then cover with two eggs beaten with 2-3tbsp milk pop in the oven for 30-40mins until golden.
CousCous is another favourite in our house. Boiling water over it and leave for 10mins then add flavours and veg to suit.

    Some other suggestions are:
    • Ploughmans style lunch - crackers, cheese, tomatoes etc
    • Mozzarella and tomato salad with olive oil and basil
    • Houmous and pitta.
    • Wraps or different styles of bread
    • Cereal and milk
I have loads of other ideas but I am not sure if these are the type of suggestions you were looking for?

cold pizza - buy cheap 'value' ones- maybe the mini ones if they still do them? or make your own if you feel adventurous.
    sausage rolls
    rolls
salads - carrot and apple, rice and sweetcorn and peas, pepper and sweetcorn?
    fun fruit juices?
    cheese and biscuits
different fruits - kiwi/banana/apple/nectarine/grapes/strawberries/plums- whatever is cheap and you can get your hands on and your kids will eat.
jelly in little pots? - can make your own easy enough.
    raisons?
    2 biscuits? for a treat?
    soup in thermos?

There is a thread on packed lunch suggestions somewhere - maybe have a search for it?
