I'm just about to reply to the 2nd e-mail. Can someone please tell me what is the latest thinking on fixed term deposits? I've got one which matures on 10th Jan and I'm tempted to apply for the paper process. I'm still confused about the timing of this - some people have been told the forms will be sent "soon",some have been told "after Dec 4th" and some that they will only be sent out after maturity. I've not had any clear response from the FSCS either. Anybody any the wiser? I have a feeling even "soon" could mean month or so from today.0

I've just been told by the FSCS that the first paper forms were sent on Friday -so it seems that "soon" does mean soon. Apparently there is nothing to stop us copying a blank form that some kind person could post here as a .pdf to us all save time - especially those with early maturity dates.0

That's a brilliant idea - lets hope someone who has a form can follow through on that"How could I have been so mistaken as to trust the experts" - John F Kennedy 19620 -
I wouldn't normally cross post, but just to show that e-mails are coming through this is my post from the other thread:
Received mine this afternoon (24/11/08, 3pm). And initiated the claim successfully.
Just to note for fixed rate accounts, that you want to run to maturity, you have to enter the current balance in the box, not the balance due at maturity to initiate the claim, I've checked with FSCS and this is fine, you aren't committed to this amount, and will be paid out the full maturity balance. Forms should apparently be sent out during the first week in Dec.
Found the process to be very efficient, and worked for both an instant access and fixed rate Icesave account with no problems.0 -

1st Email from FSCS 4 Nov 11.51pm.
2nd Email received today - 24 Nov 5.36pm.
Less than 4k in account - last name towards the end of the alphabet.
I am glad that my wait for both Kaupthing & Icesave are over - what a lot of stress!
Good luck to the rest of you still waiting - hope good news arrives soon for everyone.0 -
Second second email received today (OH was last 15th November, mine has just arrived now).
Need the ISA certificate!
Feel a bit of a cheat having two when others have not have one.
Need FSCS to speed up.0 -

Received 2nd email today at 1pm. One of my fixed term bonds matures in January. I'm letting it run to maturity on the grounds that (1) I might as well have the certainty of 3 months' interest at Icelandish rates (Oct - Jan) against the possible loss of (say) 3months' interest at current UK rates, and (2) the 'paper system' might well be a lot quicker than that. Although the FSCS has been less than brilliant at clear communication, it does seem to have been OK at getting up to speed on repayments, so I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt.O G  Somewhere on the South Downs
