AVG manager fails to update

I had to twice uninstall AVG 8 before it would update again (And i knew the servers were ok as I tested on other computers, 2 of which also had to be reinstalled) in as many months a while back
Its why ive changed to Avast:idea:0 -
Try
Start
Control Panel
Network connections
Right click on Local Area Connection
Click Properties
Go down the list to find TCP/IP (option v4 if Vista)
Click on Properties button
General Tab
Click Advanced
Click DNS Tab
If, in the top bit (DNS Server addresses), you have a series of numbers or a website, you have a virus / spyware.
It's rerouting your internet requests to a particular website.
ComboFix is what I've been using to remove it..0 -
I had this with AVG and was not able to update manually either so after advice from the kind people here, I uninstalled it and downloaded the free Avast, and so far so good.0
