My AVG been doing the same & I've been double clicking on the AVG symbol and selecting update manually. That's worked for me of late

This is why I changed to Avira (then Avast, just to see how it is these days)
You may need to uninstall and reinstall AVG to get it to update (This happened to me twice in as many months):idea:0 -
AVG is NOT rubbish
Avast is fine - if a little annoying when it announces loudly 'Virus database has been updated'
There are others too - all free - don't think paying will get you a better facility.0 -
It's getting a bit tiresome I have to confess. Mine's just (as I write!) updated after hitting the update button every now and then for the last half hour.
It's not happening often or long enough just yet to make me change. But if I had the paid-for version I'd be livid! I've previously considered upgrading to the paid-for version (not going to now, obviously) but as it only licensed three users it was no good to me: I'd need four. Then again, someone else would want five; you have to draw the line somewhere, of course.
This new MS product sounds interesting. They're pushing the fact it's going to be lightweight to suit low-power / budget users. One of the main criticisms I've read about AVG is that's it's become bloated. But it's not happening for a while yet (June next year possibly.)

That's interesting, I haven't seen this suggestion before. It would make a lot of sense, and the argument is similar to the "why there are no* viruses for the Mac or Linux systems" argument.
* Or very few viruses anyway.
If this is the case (and it sounds plausible to me) then as soon as another product becomes as popular as AVG, it will suffer the same fate. Like this Avira I keep seeing people posting about.0 -
I've been having the same problems with my AVG...

I got so fed up with AVG and the updates not loading I switched to Avast.0

I've had similar problems with AVG (no later than this evening).
I chose to ignore it as I was only checking on my Hattrick team, but having left the PC on, I now see that the update was completed anyway. Obviously keeps trying the server. As long as you keep an eye on the sites you visit, it shouldn't be an issue while waiting for the update.0
